Okay here's the situation. #1 I DO NOT want a shower but my mother could really care less so I'm getting one anyway. Fine. #2 I also work 2 jobs and I HAVE to work weekends and I HAVE to give at least a months notice for both jobs if I can't work a particular Saturday or Sunday. I let my Mom know this and that she's going to have to give me 2 weekends where I can't work and I'll work the other 2. I understand that she wants me to be surprised (something else that I hate!) but I also have to work if I want to pay for this wedding. So she turns around and tells me that everything is taken care of and that she knows my bosses! Umm excuse me? If I find out that my Mom goes to my bosses to manipulate my schedule for a shower I'm going to be not too happy. I have a professional job and and I'm not 16 years old working at McDonalds. Am I blowing this out of proportion or would any of you be aggravated if your Mom went to your job and changed your schedule around with out your permission? Why can't I just have a wedding without all the rest of the hullaballoo? Like I said it just makes matters worse that I HATE to be surprised and that I don't want a shower either. UGH.

Re: Would you be mad????
She really wants to do this for you and have you be suprised. Do you have a regular schedule or do you go week by week. I know I had a job where I had to work every other weekend, so I was able to schedule things around that. If you could give her the weekdends you are off, then she could make the shower for one of those days.

The regular weekdays are fine but I don't have the same weekends and I have to split them between both jobs. She said that she already set a date so I can't even have her work around me now.

i think your mother is just trying to make it 'perfect' for you- i know you don't want a shower, but i would be happy with anything anyone wants to pay for- in some other family situations people do not want to open their wallet- and that's not any fun either! good luck!

I totally understand how you feel. I have reiterated that I do not want a shower and so far so good, but there is still a bit of time. I would be utterly frustrated if my mom spoke to my employer to reschedule for a shower. That just doesn't sound like a professional thing to do.

Re: Would you be mad????
I ddi not have a shower and was adamant about it, but since my mom passed away a while ago, it was easier to convince people. If she were alive, I probably would have gone along with it for her sake. I think a good compromise would be to tell her you didn't really want the shower, but since she insisted, you deserve to know when it is, so that you can prepare yourself and your co-workers to have the day off.
I was always amazed at how many people insisted that of course I wanted a shower, and I was 'just saying that now, but will change your mind later....' I feel for you.

Re: Would you be mad????
i totally understand how you feel, but most mom's (especially if you're her only girl) like mine, want everything to be special for their 'princess'...while it is supposed to be our weddings we do a lot of things or invite a lot of people or order things that we don't really want but it will make this one or that one happy on OUR day...*****, but unless ur eloping or Surprising your family and friends like B Spears did, we have to grin and bear it!!

Re: Would you be mad????
I really wouldn't worry about it. My mom wanted to give my sister a surprise party for her 30th bday last year and she called her boss and told her to give her the day off. My sister is a business manager at Clinique and her boss had no problem with my mom calling her. I wouldn't worry...I'm sure your mom is just trying to do the best for you.
