Would you be offended or think this was rude?

If you told a stranger that she has a beautiful engagement ring (while wearing yours) and she said a heartfelt 'Thank you' but did not say a word about your ring

ETA - I ask because I got a compliment on my ring today while looking at gowns and I simply said 'Thank you'.

My good friend noticed the other woman's ring and said it was on the wrong finger. Honestly, I do not look at anyone else's e-ring....unless I know them. We all tried on dresses for a while and kind of bonded but I wonder if my not commenting on her ring could be considered rude?

I would not be offended or think it's rude at all. In fact, I'd be MORE offended if I got the 'obligatory' compliment back. Did that make sense? Not only that, but I don't care what a stranger thinks

Maybe she didn't take a good look at your ring? It's hard not to feel offended when someone doesn't comment (compliment) on your ring. I know I'm sensitive about that!

Actually, it was me who did not compliment her ring. I honestly didn't even notice it. I was not intending to be rude. Maybe she was not offended though since she did continue to share all the details about the hall deposit they are leaving tomorrow, the guest list, who is paying for what etc.

I would be offended! But once I told someone I loved her ring and she looked at mine and said it was CUTE!!!!!! I was more offended by that. She should have said nothing!!!!

I don't tend to comment on other people's rings and I hope that people are not offended.

YUP, 'CUTE' is the worst adjective to use to describe an engagement ring. Diamond rings are beautiful not CUTE! I'd rather they say nothing than to say it was cute. I had a close friend (at the time) say that about my ring. Meanwhile everyone comments on how sparkling and nice my ring is (3 stone radiant on plat) Geesh, see how defensive I'm getting already?

Rule of Thumb: Don't ever mess with a bride and her ring! LOL

That's great. For some reason this bothered me when my friend brought it up I was not trying to be rude though so it really should not matter at all.

I actually did this to someone, TOTALLY on accident. I was at a friend's baby shower and she (the honoree) asked to see my ring, said it was very nice. At the same time I saw she was wearing a ring (did not know they had officially become engaged) and asked to see hers. I said 'That's so cute' not meaning it in a condesending way! It just came out that way!!

I told FH the story and he won't let me live it down!!!

I honestly would not be offended... Most times when people get engaged I forget to even ask to see their ring. I guess Im just not a jewlery person... I dont mean to be rude, but I just forget. My diamond ring is not so important to me. It could be a plain band and Id love it just as much. :)

Honestly, I don't even think I would give it a second thought. I would never give someone a compliment if I was just looking to get one back - I would think that would be more rude than not telling her she had a nice ring.

I wouldn't have even thought of that. I don't give compliments so I can get one in return. I don't think that was rude of you at all.

Katrina--_It sounds like the girl you were talking to did not even realize that you didn't give her a compliment. She was interested in talking to you after that and it does not sound like she changed her behavior after she commented on your ring.

If I give a compliment, it's not to get one back.

In fact, I actually feel a little bit awkward if I give someone a compliment and that girl then wants to see my ring. Some do it well, but others do it with a jealous eye (and that has more to do with a type person than the prettiness of a ring!) - and I don't like being the object of jealousy.

I wouldn't worry about it... she probably was talking to you to get a better view of the dresses you had!
