YEP! And I am going to go for it. Quality of life I have learned supersedes money by far.

Of course. Who wouldn't? But do you mean would you take a pay cut to be happy? thats an entirely different question.

What are you looking to do?

I currently do not have a career but I thought that I was going to be a CPA for sure. I was good at school but also bored at the same time I knew that I was not going ot be happy. At the end I left school to take some time out to find out what I really want to do. Now I will be starting the French Culinary to be a Pastry Chef and I know that this will make me happy.

I made a career change a few years ago....the money was actually better with the move....however it is very scary taking a risk like that.

Wow, Latina... do we have the same life? I am currently in a corporate career but came SOOOOOOO close to enrolling in French Culinary for Pastry, but backed out at the last minute because I'd never see my FH/DH in a culinary career. He works a corporate job and our hours would conflict for the rest of our lives... I want to have a family, and I don't want to be going to work when my hubby comes home.

But I am SO happy for you, that you are doing it! I wish I would have decided to do it years ago before I was getting married. I wish you all the best!

In the meantime I am still looking for my ideal job! I know this is NOT the career for me. I need a shrink...

Whatever you want to do that makes you happy you should. You can make a million dollars a year and still be miserable at work. Which is why most people with lots of $$ have several careers.

Re: Would you change your career to be happy?

At first I thought I can go to Grad school and do the same stuff. A way of getting out of here is what I thought.
Then I thought Law school but its still corporate and dealing with all the nonsense I deal with now I don't think I would want to do that either. All the $$ spent may not be worth it in the long run.

Needless to say my type of work doesn't make me happy anymore. It is no longer challenging or worthwile. My dream job would have been to do something with NASA. But at my age and the type of experience I have now, its not even close to what NASA's reqs are. Someone told me be a teacher. But I don't have the patience to deal with 15+ kids regardless of age in one setting.
I feel like I work and work and come home with no satisfaction but complaints. I am not learning anything anymore and that is what bothers me too.

Kathy will be the best chef!!!!!
I feel bored sometimes.

Now this is why I want to get a new job in the same type of field yet become an investment banker.
The Job is so me.....

So I hope it will happen.

I also should add that I do like Meeting Planning or Event Planning. I used to do it at my old job along with Marketing and a few other things. Too many responsibilities reason why I left. But the Event Planning was the best part of the job.
Anyone know that is hiring? I would NOT try to do events with my company. This place is the PITS when it comes to having people work within other departments!

Re: Would you change your career to be happy?

I would change my career in a heartbeat to be happy! I don't care if I had to take a pay cut. What good is having a lot of money if you aren't happy??? I would never let a job make me unhappy and eventually ill just because it paid me well.

Money is NOT everything. But happiness is...

You can get by with less money. But can you get by with less happiness? No way! Not for long at least.

I would change it as well - quality of life is much more important than the dollars

Re: Would you change your career to be happy?

I just did, and it was so worth it. I leave work now feeling happy! and its really too much fun to be considered 'work' anyway.

I took a pay cut, but I feel so much happier I don't miss the $$.

(in my last job -which wasn't horrible, just not what I wanted to be doing, I justified staying there by saying it allowed me to afford the life I wanted, but it wasn't until I left that I realized how much it affected me daily and brought me down. And even though I'm not making as much $$, our lifestyle hasn't changed much).
