I searched craigslist and I got a great quote for a basic raw footage video of my wedding (the whole wedding). I don't want any editing, just someone to video it that knows what they are doing. We don't have much $$ left for a video so this is my last resort. Here is his ad:
'Need a video shot? How about a professional looking video? If so, I'm your guy. I am an experienced Cinematographer/Videographer equipped with a Panasonic DVX-100A and I'm ready to shoot any video project you may have from short films, weddings, birthdays, commercials, interviews, etc. You name it, I'll shoot it.
Also, I'm an editor as well (double threat) equipped with an Avid Xpress Pro editing suite complete with DVD authoring capabilities. So if you needed that video edited and put on DVD, I can provide that service as well.
I also have my own car, so I am willing to travel certain distances for a job.
References and reel available on request. '
He quoted me $225.00 flat fee for the whole day (4-10 hrs). Just raw footage, no editing or anything. $50 deposit and no travel fees(hes in queens).
What else should I ask him? I don't plan on giving him any $ up front unless I get some kind of receipt or contract.

Re: Would you do this?
That seems too good to be true. JT works in television and film production. He went to school for all this stuff, so if you can hold off till tomorrow, I can have him check it out for you. Also, I can ask him if any of his friends would do this for you.

Ask him for his references and see if he has any work you can check out.

Find out if he went to school for all of this, if he's IN school for this, and where his avid suite is. If he's a film student, I would say the price makes sense, but if not, and he claims to be 'professional', then I find it fishy. I will have JT check it out, though.

Find out if you can see his work. Also find out if he would be wililng to give you a contract. If this is a side business, there is no guarantee that he will be insured which some places want and he may not be as reliable as other places. Meet with him, get a feel for him and take it from there

That sounds really good, but definitely check his references/ make sure they are valid. Also, ask to see some of his work. I think that's most important. I actually got my photographer from craigslist for my e-party. She showed me her work and it was excellent. Just want I wanted. I didn't wanna spend a fortune. Good Luck.
