book a photog without actually meeting with them? Long story short, we live far away and FH thinks that since we found a photog we love and have seen their work online that we should just work out a package and book them via email so that we dont have to waste time while we are home trekking to their place in Brooklyn. What do you think?

A reservation I have with that is you need to mesh personality-wise. If we didn't meet with photographers, we would have booked the first guy we liked online and unfortunately in person we couldn't stand him (super obnoxious and would have been horrible day of). We ended up booking with the 3rd photographer we met with because we liked his photos AND his personality.
Is there a family member that might be able to meet with the photographer for you?

I would not feel comfortable booking with a photographer if I did not meet them in person. They may be the most obnoxious person. My friend did that and the photographer ended up being a crazy Vietnam vet, who was a racist, and insulted guests at her wedding then refused to take pics of some of her guests because he thought they were Vietnamese when in fact they were Chinese.

I personally would not..like others said I feel you need to mesh with this person (no matter how good their work) you will be with them more than any other vendor on your day and if you don't like them it would suc k

Yikes!!! No, not a photographer. Don't book without someone meeting them unless there are some past brides on here that could tell you a little more about their work and how they personally like them.

No, this photog isn't really well known here, so I don't think there would be anyone to vouch for them

I would say no unless its a company like Duet thats well known and trusted. I mean I did not actually meet my photographer from Duet but I booked them.
