would you ever book a friend as a vendor....long story
So I recently started catching up with my best friend from highschool. (We were pretty much inseperable but one I went to away to college we lost touch) Of course I tell her about the wedding and she brings up the fact that she is going to beauty school to become a hair dress. She offered to do everyone's hair for the wedding.
Would you take the offer or would you just go with another vendor. Honestly, I know she is great at doing hair but, part of me is nervous just because we lost touch for so long and how much she has changed...

One of my best friends was my videographer. I haven't seen the finished product yet but I trusted him completely. If you don't trust this person then I would not agree to it. Thank her for the offer but tell her you already booked with someone else and don't want to lose the money.

I don't know... I just had a bad experience with my DOC.... He was a past co-worker and friend. So I'm going to say no.

IMO...........I would never mix business & friends. If you book someone in the business of doing whatever & things don't go as expected you have some recourse. Than, you never use that business again., & spread the word of your mishap.
If you go with a friend in the business of doing whatever & things don't go as expected............you may be hesitant to go after her because she is a friend. You may not want to spread the word about the mishap, for fear of loosing that friend.
If you hire a professional, pay them what they are worth (don't beat them up on their price, they may go into your wedding half hearted & cut corners because they did not get what they feel they are worth) than, things don't go as expected you have all the recourse in the world to go after them. Plus, you'll never feel bad about spreading the word of your mishap. ' I paid you what you wanted without asking for a better price, you did not perform as expected, I'm sueing your a$$' Everything is in your favor & your friends are intact!
IMO........Keep business with business & friends as friends.

Ask her for a trial run!! And if you don't like it, say your FMIL will pay for your hair, but only if you use ehr stylist. I always blame the FMIL. LOL!

My florist is a friend I grew up with. He's my mom's best friend's son, and he was my very first friend....ever! I've known him my whole life and trust him completely.
He does amazing work, and when he showed me his portfolio, I was even more confident in working with him. Then when I saw my sample that he made me........I KNEW I made the right decision!
ETA: Also, I'm using Proline Studios for photography, and the owner is a personal friend of my sister's. He grew up around the block from me

I'm using my MOHs younger sister for hair (and maybe makeup) although I haven't officially 'booked' her yet... I more or less demanded. but in the event that she doesn't do it, my mother is a hair dresser so I'll have one of her friends do it. I might be using a friend of mine from HS as our DJ and my mothers friend as our florist.... so yea, its a little weird telling your friends what you can and can't afford... and talking business with them, but at the same time, you dont have to be so formal.. and you can chat and catch up.

Only because she just started Beauty School, I would be hesitant. It would be different if she was experienced. Do you have the relationship where you can say let's do a trial, let me see how it lasts, but if it's not my vision, or doesn't stay, I may decide to go with someone else? If not, then don't do it.

I am using one of my BMs for hair, but I am giving her $100 towards her dress in exchange. I trust her completely (I've known her for over 20 years at this point) and the best part is that I'll get as many trials as I want for freeeee

well my friends have used our best friend for hair. she is awesome and very talented. the reason im not using her cause she;s in the bridal party and so far at every wedding she was so busy doin everyones hair she never got to fully enjoy it IMO.. I know she loves it but I actually want her to relax and have fun and not have to rush the day of my wedding so Im not using her unless I totally need to

No, I wouldn't want to mess up the friendship if she messes up your hair on ur big day. If u did a trail and loved it then ok but what if you hate it u can hurt her feelings too....so I wouldn't do it

if she is good at what she does, why not?! just make sure to do a trial first and be COMPLETELY satisfied....if you arent satisifed, then dont do it...
or if she is good but not exactly what you want, maybe just have her do the BMs in a more simple style that she can easily do

If you have ever watched Judge Judy then you will know that it is not a good idea to do any kind of business with a friend. What if something happens and she can't make it will she expect you to be understanding because she is a 'friend'. Also think about the fact that she is still in school...she may not have the savvy to do a bridal party yet. Also, what if you don't like something she does will you be able to tell her without hurting her feelings? Please take advice and don't use her go with a reputable vendor who you will be able to voice your opinion and thoughts without feeling bad.

I think that it's a great idea. My sister is going to do my invites since she's a graphic designer (I know that's diff. since she's my sister, but along the same lines), and one of her friends might be our photographer. I feel if you trust her and know she's going to do a good job, why not give her some exposure, and save some money in the process. Can you do a trial with her to make sure you like what she does?
