Would you feel guilty (shower related)

Would you feel guilty (shower related)

Fh and I have lived together for almost 3 years. When we moved in together we had to buy a lot of stuff. Some we spent some money on and others we cheaped out.
So when we registered we added items that were sort of expensive, but would be replacing cheaper items we already owned.
Anyway, my shower was on Saturday. We got a ton of stuff and I am greatful for all of the gifts.
FH and I wound up returning almost $1000 worth of items so that we could get the more expensive items we wanted (our pots set and knife block). FH said to me last night that he feels guilty that we returned all that stuff that people got us.
My feeling is that we knew no one person would buy us our pot set or knives (because of the price) and I think people would rather we have items we really need versus items that are just 'wants'.
Would you feel guilty about returning items people got you?

Haha that was my feeling as well.
Except BBB puts the returned items back on your registry so I had to go and remove them.

Absolutely not, no harm no foul. I think you should definitely have what you want. It will make you happy and I'm sure it would make your family and friends happy that you are happy. Not to mention, how would they know anywayz!!

I did the same thing you did. At first I felt guilty but in the end why keep items you know you dont need when there are items you do need. Plus I got a lot of duplicate items because BBB didn't take things off of my registry when they were purchased....so those you have to take back...you don't need 2 Shark Steam Mops...lol

I was at BBB Monday immediately after work exchanging stuff for things I wanted more. I wouldnt feel guilty at all IMO.

FH and I were in the same boat. When we moved in together we got all cheap stuff and then when we registered we wanted the good stuff. Noone got us it though because they 'figured we already had what we needed' (at least thats what they told my mom). Kind of annoying that I spent weeks registring and alot of people totally diregarded our registry.. .but now I am going and getting the stuff I really wanted. Unfortunately we got alot of gifts from god knows where with no gift receipts... and its stuff I dont watn or need. Its the thought that counts right?!

Same. I got alot of dupes though but I still have plenty to return...and I would rather return it for stuff I need.

Don't feel guilty! FH and I registered for pots and pans that my aunt and uncle bought us when we got engaged months ago. We never used it, but then found a set we liked more (for double the price) last weekend. So we brought the original set back and just paid the difference. Nobody cares (or will even know) if you return stuff. Do what makes you happy!

I returned over $500 worth of stuff to BBB the day after my shower and I'm going there today to return some more! Don't feel guilty at all!!!! Ultimately people want you to have the things you need.

Don't feel guilty! I intend on returning the single china setting we will be getting, as well as most likely the microwave since there will probably be one wherever we end up anyways. Some silly things were also purchased that were kind of expensive, yet we still do not have pots, towels, etc. China is nice and well, but not when you don't have anything to cook the food in that you should be serving on it.

We did the same thing. People would want you to be happy. In my Weddings for Dummies book it says it is VERY common.

Don't worry!

I'm weird when it comes to that stuff so I would feel guilty but I totally understand!!!! I think it's fine! Plus, if you already have the stuff people will unerstand that you returned for a good reason and got what you really needed.
