Would you go to a BAR when Pregnant???

Original post by kmcwed

Hi ladies,

I know it sounds like an odd question. But my DH and I have friends, who actually went to a bar last night. She's pregnant and due to give birth in two weeks.

As far as we know, there was no drinking involved. But DH and I both thought it was just a terrible idea, and not the place to be if you're almost at your due date.

Taking into consideration the crowd, other people who are drinking, then being on the road so late at night afterwards, we were shocked by it, to be honest.

Are we being old-farts by thinking a pregnant woman shouldn't be in a bar at night??

What do you think??

I think another reason we felt so stunned by it, was that this bar is in a 'seedy' neighborhood...actually one of the worst in upper Manhattan. It was late on a Saturday night. To me, it really seems irresponsible.

I think there's a big difference between a bar like that, and a more laid-back older-crowd type of place.

Oh well, as I said, to each his/her own.

If it's a decent place, no smoking or anything, more like a lounge, I don't think I would have a problem seeing a preggo that was NOT drinking at one.

For me personally, it's a No-no. I don't think I would at all

I agree with Karen, there are so many different types of bars.

I WOULD be disturbed if I saw one in a 'seedy' bar.

The kind of 'seedy' bar that caters to a rowdy crowd where a fight is likely to break out before the end of the evening? No.

Somewhere upscale and more reserved, with a laid back and mature bunch of people in a smoke-free environment? Can't see why that would be a problem even if it entailed being on the road late at night.

What you described...probably not. Sounds a bit risky...

I don't see why not as long as she's not drinking, and it's not all the time. Mommy-to-be needs some time out before little one comes! I've been out a couple of times to bar like atmospheres, and didn't see a big deal about it. We didn't stay long in one place because it was too smoky.
