Would you hire a photographer that had never . . .

photographed at your reception hall before?

I mean, it just seems like there are so many good photographers out there, why not just go with one that knows the terrain? Or do you think it doesn't really matter?

Just wondering if I should drag a LI photographer out to the city for my wedding - or just hire a city photographer that knows my venue well - thanks!

I would feel more comfortable with someone that has been to my venue, we went with someone that has been to mine.....they know the ins and outs, they know the angles, the already are familiar with it

We did and everything was fine. Yu could ask them to go there before your wedding and take a look around to get a feel for the place and figure out good locations for photos.

Sure I would. If you think about it, they likely haven't seen your house (or hotel, or wherever you are planning to get ready), maybe they haven't seen your ceremony site...but they're professionals. They'll find the good spots pretty quickly.

Ditto............and if the price cannot be beaten by a local photographer, even more reason to use the LI photographer (especially if you like their work!!!)

Ours has never seen our reception venue before, but we put it in our contract that they have to visit it at least 1 time before the wedding. I am not worried - they are professionals.

I wouldnt care if they had been to my reception site before..I dont think that really matters. I would pick a photographer whose work you were most in sync with. When I was first looking, it was hard to tell the difference between photographers but now its so easy to spot what I like and don't..its just a matter of really studying the portfolios of a lot of people.

My photographer has never shot a wedding at my venue, but I really liked his photos and his personality. Initially I was torn between him and the hotel's recommended photographer, but because of those factors, I decided to go with him. I don't think its a big deal, although it was definitely something that I thought about. As other people have said, I'm probably going to take the guy to the hotel once before the wedding and scope it out with him. I wouldn't worry about it too much-- go with who you like!

I think it's probably better if they do know the area, especially if there might be permit restrictions and that kind of thing BUT if you really love someone's work, then that's what you should go with. For me, it was just a plus that my photographer knew a lot about Glen Island including the not-so-obvious spots to take pictures, like this little mini-castle in the adjacent park that no other photographer had even mentioned.

Yes. We did book with someone who was very familiar with the hall, and honestly, I don't think it really made any difference at all. I thought it would be a big plus, but I think some of the posed shots at the hall could have been better. JMO.

As long as you like their work I think it's fine. I would request that they check out the place be4 the wedding though.
