I was thinking of getting 4 or 5 bottles of wine and putting tags on them reading '1st Anniversary', 'First night in New House', etc. as an engagement gift for a friend. That way they have something special to make the milestones in their relationship. Any thoughts?? Is it too corny??

Great idea! I would love to get something like that.
Just remember -- for the bottles they'll need to keep a while (first anniversary, first night new house, etc.), get red wine that isn't already aged too much. White wine may spoil in 1-2 years depending on when it was bottled, whereas most younger reds (think 2003 - 2004) would be awesome in a couple years.
What a great gift!
By the way, there is a wine basket poem (do a search) I've seen on here for something similar -- but I think that's for about 12 bottles of wine and goes by the color of the bottle / label / tag. At the very least, it might give you some ideas!

Thanks for the info on the age of wines. I don't know much about that stuff but I'll definitely look for some younger wines for the far off milestones. And I'll look for the poem. I can't wait to put this all together, I think they're going to love it!!

it's more important that they're red than just younger. White wines are bottled to be drank pretty soon and most don't age well. Most reds will get better with age!

Ok, oh, thanks! I guess it would be smart to do mostly reds then. I don't think they're too picky with their wine.

I found the wine poem. I think I'm going to make the tags with scrapbooking supplies and use some of the lines from the poem, but I'm also going to come up with some of my own.
Since I'm home from work early and just watching the depressing news (fake bombs found all over Boston!!), I'm going to get started!

my sister did this for me for my shower and i LOVED it!!!! i got one for wedding night, first anniversary, first fight, first promotion, first house, first baby and i think there were a few more. we loved it!!!! there was a poem that went with it. . . .

I came up with some little sayings for the wine. 2 of them I 'stole' from the wine poem. The others are just to be funny and silly... what do you think?

That is an awesome idea and I am so going to do it the next time i have a friend get engaged or married or something.
We recieved a really nice bottle of champagne as a wedding gift to drink on our one year anniversary. I thought that was a really fun and nice gift.

I was MOH for my best friend's wedding and some of the girls and I did this as part of her gift... we bought 12 bottles of wine- well, 11, because we bought one champagne (for the wedding night)...and we got her a beautiful wine rack too... She loved it! They love wine!
