Would you marry someone if your family...

hated them or vice versa, their family hated you?

I think I would. They would just have to accept it.

I was having a conversation with a friend of mine who felt just the opposite and would NOT marry the person.

I would too... I cant stand my inlaws, but that doesnt at all affect my relationship with frank!

I definitly would... however, I'm not sure how far I'd let the relationship get knowing that my family hated him or vice versa... I think I might just avoid it from the beginning...

Knowing what I do know now, I would say not in a million years. Why would you want to subject yourself to that?

Depends on the situation. Some people have real problems with their families.
That being said, it would be hard. I am really close with my family. Every guy (there hasn't been that many) they have disliked in the past, there was a reason and I didn't see it at the time. Maybe they have my best interests at heart.

It's a tough question. I think it would be VERY hard on the relationship and could cause many problems. The way I feel about FH now I would say yes but his mom is OK (not the best but certainly not the worst) I don't know how I would feel if we didn't get along or if he didn't get along with my side (they LOVE him)

My sister is one person who did not let this affect her.

We are black and my sister married an Italian man.

His family was not too pleased and made life unbearable. My sister stuck through it. they are happily married still with 2 beautiful kids. His parents eventually came around, but it was a struggle though.

My opinion is do whatever makes YOU happy.

I would want to evaluate what the reason were behind the hate, and think about whether or not their concerns were reasonable. If my family was nuts, and had some ridiculous reason I would ignore it. However if their concern was something significant I hope I would take their feeling into consideration.

i would not, unless they hated him over some misunderstanding or something that could be cleaered.

my family is very close and i knew i wouldnt marry anyone who they didnt get along with. i also knew i wouldnt marry into a family that wouldnt get along great with mine.

but maybe thats just my culture .. a marriage isnt just about 2 people, its about 2 families coming together. so they better like each other!

Absolutely! They don't have to love him, I do. Although depending on how close you are with your family, that could put a huge strain on your relationship.

I am very fortunate that we all get along so great. Our families even spend holidays together.

It would be difficult for me to become part of a family that didn't like me. I would still marry my husband but try to make it work out as best I could.

i think i would still marry them. before i was engaged it was a little shaky with FMIL & FFIL, but it did get better

on the other hand.. my friend for years hasnt been getting along with her boyfriends parents and I dont see how their relationship could work.
it depends on the situation cause i didnt think my problem would get better, but now it is bettter than ever.

I think that once you step outside the relationship, those who see it from the outside usually know best.
