Take a 10% pay cut if it meant no one at your job would get laid off? Would you do it if you knew that you would keep your job through the lay offs? Or how high of a but would you take?
I was just wondering as folks are all getting laid off, what other options would be to help people get through this. . . I know this is prob not realistic option but an interesting dillemma. .
interesting....the prob is that if people thought they'd never get laid off...they wouldnt give a crap... not to be harsh but at my office i sometimes feel like i am the one busting my arse....so the answer would prob be no for me....in life sometimes as hard as it is...you just have to look out for yourself....

yeah, I guess I should answer this too -
I once did this in an old job (the cut was way more than 10% but only temporary and they paid us back) Now I don't work in an office so don't really know the company wide people and have no attachments or any sense of community so would prob not do it. .

MMM, very interesting. I hate to sound like a b*tch but like JJC, I bust my a$$ while some here sit here and read books (The girl who attempted to steal my Christmas vacation) So no, I wouldn't take a 10% cut. I have enough coming out for taxes and 401K as is.

funny you should mention this.. our whole company - everyone was mandatory 5% pay decrease to keep anyone from loosing their job - they put out a memo that they hope to reinstate our 5% that we lost by Feb/March next year....

Thankfully I have the type of job that actually does better when we have a bad economy so I don't have to worry about this....
If it were that we had to take a 10% paycut to prevent SOME people from getting laid off, I would say no. I am confident that I wouldn't be on the chopping block and that they would start with the slackers. If it were a 10% pay cut or the firm would go completely under, I think I would have to consider it.
