Would you order invites early if you can save 50%

Okay I work for a print shop and after figuring out about designing my own vs ordering from a catalog it might be considerably cheaper to just order them. I haven' t made up my mind 100% because I am awaiting a new line to come out.

My question is: I will be graduating this may from college and hopefuly will be working at a new place. So in April/May i was thinking of ordering the invites even though my wedding isn't till March 16, 2008 but I can get it at costs price which is 50% less then retail.

Would you order early? Or just suck it up and pay full retail price and get them later on in the year closer to your wedding date?

I would definetly order them if you can get 50% off. Where ever you can save money try to. Cause in the end it's going to really add up.

If you know all the details and are 100% sure that nothing will change I would order them now.

Catering hall/cereomy is booked as of Dec. 4th. I mean obv. if the wedding is cancelled which would suck then i realized i am in trouble but i felt silly ordering them so early.

The design i came up for the invites was so time consuming to have printed/cut/get supplies that after factoring it all in its really worth it for me just to order it out of a book. There is a new line of just pocket invites comming out this month and fig. if i found something I LOVE then maybe go for it since its soo much cheaper then doing it myself. That and I can do all the typesetting myself anyway and add in my monogram and send it in at no extra charge so at least i am doing my own typography/wording.

Thanks for answering me.. and i hope to get more opinions as the day goes on!

Um YES! Invites can be a heafty cost and more importantly, weddings can be a heafty cost. Anywhere you can save is important. I would definately order early to be able to save 50%. Just pick something you know you'll like either way.

Re: Would you order invites early if you can save 50%

I ordered my invites back in May/June of 06.. but i didn't get a 50% discount... but I wanted these particular invites so bad that I was afraid that they would be discontinued by the time I was ready to buy them (which had happened to me right before with another invitation)... so I bought them.. And I had them printed with the ceremony and RH location etc...

But not to scare you... around 11/06 I got a call from the Church that was supposed to marry us.. telling us that they will NOT be marrying us... 3 mths. before the wedding! mind my invites are already printed... so I had to find another church.. (thank god for my DOC- she found it for me)... and then I had to pay an additional $300 for the invites to be re-printed.. talk about wasted money!

So my advice to you is... if you can buy them and not have the invitation co. start the printing... then do that... try your best to delay the printing production. all the best!

paper can get stale... it depends on the type of paper you are using. When paper gets stale it can start to look discolored.

Re: Would you order invites early if you can save 50%

I have had two customers have this happen to them. Church refused to marry them. Felt horrible for them and did the invites at our cost for the second reprint.

As for me..I am just doing a ceremony at the same place as the cocktail and reception (CLM). So i can't see it possibly being cancelled. I have found invites that I TRULY love that are online that aren't horribly expensive so thats my backup if I chicken out in april to order. I also get to upload artwork with it so i get my design still.

As for stale paper. I have had paper on the shelfs at the print shop for years. YES it does discolor, warp, etc over lengthy times. Typically when exposed to high humidty and heat. I have thought about this and will have to ensure they stay in a temp/humid controlled room sealed ( i have a shrink wrap machine too if need be).

Thank you all! I feel better now.. just can't wait till this stupid catalog gets released.
