Assume all qualities are the same, except the Hamptons wedding would be a more casual affair with several parties and the NYC wedding would be black tie event with a 1.5 hour boat cruise around NYC after.
I'm having trouble trying to figure out what kind of wedding I want, please help!

Re: Would you rather be a guest at...
Not everyone can afford or will be able to be away in the hamptons all weekend for several parties... I think its a GREAT idea and sounds wonderful but you will probably get more no's or people who don't stay the whole weekend.
ETA: I also wanted to add alot of people cant do smaller boats... My DH and most the men in his family get VERY sick on anything smaller then a huge cruise ship

Yeah, I know and that's fine- they don't have to come to all the events. We were thinking of getting a bunch of houses for the weekend- and everything would be very casual and fun, nothing too fancy.

Even being able to handle the expense of the Hamptons, there is nothing like NYC skyline. The is one thing I love about being here

I have lived and worked in NYC most of my life, so I dont need to see it again. I would rather have a chic weekend in the hamptons

I pick the long weekend wedding!
How many times do you actually do that!
It would be assume to have your wedding full of events for an entire weekend.
If I had the money I would definitely do this!!!

I hate hate hate the hamptons!! I used to work out there (as a teacher) and cant deal with the attitude!! Plus, depending on the time of year, the traffic is horrendous!

Re: Would you rather be a guest at...
nothing beats the NYC skyline at night, and although most of us see the city on a daily basis, not many people take the opportunity to take a cruise around Manhattan island and be a 'tourist' so I voted for that.
(it helps that i also hate heading out to the hamptons because of the traffic)

NYC all the way. I would love to go to a wedding in the city and then stay over night.

i was raised with going out east every weekend, i dont' like the crazy madness of the city, i like the calm and quietness of suffolk county.

Honestly- the Hamptons... I have been to enough city weddings...
I originally wanted a city wedding, then changed my mind after seeing what somehting outside the city had to offer--- vast areas of open outdoor space..
ETA-- is the city place Water's Edge? Sounds like it.. I was just at a wedding there two weeks ago..

Re: Would you rather be a guest at...
I think either one would be great, but it would depend upon the time of year. If it were the spring or summer I would want a Hamptons weekend, but if it was the fall or winter then I would want the NYC wedding.
It might be difficult for guests to get away for an entire weekend.
However, I went to a bar mitzvah in Israel that was an entire week. It was by far the best vacation/parties I ever attended. (Even beats my wedding and that was the best IMHO). The bar mitzvah budget was in the millions. My wedding budget was WAY less.
If I had the budget for a blow out wedding I would do the Waldorf=Astoria on a Saturday night in June and get preston bailey, silvia weinstock, and the like. I would put my guests up in the hotel and have brunch for them the next day. As my gift I would give everyone bathrobes. That would have been cool.

Re: Would you rather be a guest at...
honestly the thought of a whole wedding weekend makes me shake. i would go to the wedding and then go home. i couldn't handle a whole weekend of 'events'. one event is enough for me--even for close friends and family. i also couldn't afford to spend the whole weekend away, and the thought of hamptons traffic makes my blood boil.
