Would you regret...

Would you regret...

Having a wedding? In this economy and the way that things are now a days, is it smart to drop thousands on a wedding? I'm just wondering because I just looked at how much we are spending on this wedding and when its all said and done it will be about 25k!!!! I don't have that kind of money lying around in a shoe box or under my mattress

I think about this every single day! If I didn't have this wedding, I think in a few years I would regret it. I am trying so hard to not go into debt, and that is the only thing holding my last bit of financial sanity together.

i def would regret not having a big wedding..my parents and a few people had brought up that the amt we will pay for a wedding is a down payment on a house. im willing to live in an apartment for 3 yrs instead of getting the house right away for the wedding. It is something both FH and I want !!!

Me personally, I'd rather use the money to buy a house and have a much smaller wedding on the cheap end with no more than 50 people. FH is the one who wants a bigger wedding because as he said ' hopefully we'll only get married once'. I'd rather have the tangible item. At the end of the day though I am enjoying planning everything but I am sure I would enjoy it just the same if it was on a smaller scale. I stress over the money aspect every day. FH just rolls with it.

This sounds like my FH! Im here practically pacing back and fourth because on top of wedding expenses we do have an apartment to maintain and everything that goes along with it but FH just rolls with the blows. His favorite motto is ' we'll make it happen' UUUGGGGHHHH so frustrating lol

Ugh, mine keeps saying 'we'll be fine'. I don't get why they don't stress over these things like we do.

I know I'd regret not having the wedding we both dreamed of. BUT! I also feel incredibly bad that my parents are contributing as much as they are. Little comments creep out like 'If I wasn't paying for your wedding I'd finish paying my mortgage' or 'I'll wait till next year to fix my car'.

I can totally understand how you feel there, my parents are paying for the majority of it and I feel bad everytime they say 'oh we don't go out anywhere cause we're saving for this wedding.' Makes me feel terrible and sometimes I second guess this.

I have no idea! but I do know for a fact that money doesnt fall under the sky cause obviously i'd be rich by now lol so I dont understand how our FH's can just be so cool about things and say 'we'll be fine' or 'we'll make it happen' I'm just sitting there like how??!?! Cause I don't have a money tree lol

I would regret it! It is a lot of money, but you only live once. Since I was little I dreamed of having a wonderful wedding. That doesn't mean I am not stressed about it, but I think after all the crap I have been through that I deserve this.

Okay ladies, I am a widowed mom who is making a significant contribution to my daughter's wedding and could I do other things with that money? Sure. Would it give me the same joy? Nope. Cars break down, you fix them and they break again. You won't even remember it a month later.

Nothing has been more joyful and fulfilling than being a mom to my daughters. And every little girl and mom dreams of this day.

But the joy of a weddding is not in how expensive or fancy it is, but in seeing your daughter marry the love of her life. As long as you remember that it is the joining of your life to another and not about the party, I think you will have you priorities in order. That said, have the wedding of your dreams and do it once. I married my high school sweetheart and had a beautiful wedding at Crest Hollow CC.. He was my soul mate and still is.

BTW - when did guys become the bridezillas? My daughter would also have been content with a small wedding and her FH said no way! LOL

i think down the road i would always wish i had my day to be a bride.

right now i wanna flip out think about how much money is being put towards this.

we always wanted to just do the small wedding with close friends and family, but once we started we soon found out that is not a possiblity to have a small wedding.

Re: Would you regret...

I think about the cost of the wedding everyday and it TOTALLY freaks me out. My FH and both getting married for the second time and this time around it feels so different.....we're doing things for us, we are both so involved in the planning and are having a great time. I think we would've regretted not having a wedding and yes, that was a consideration given that it was our second time but you know? It's our first time to each other and we are so much happier with each other than were before and we'll make it work.

this is well said..I agree it is a lot of money to spend in one day but it is a day that most girls dream of.
My parents also got married at the Crest Hollow CC 31 years ago and sometimes I hear my parents and their friends talk about their wedding day with such happiness.

Re: Would you regret...

Trust me i mentioned cancelling all of this and having a tiny destination wedding. But we havE so much money already invested. I dont think ull ever regret your wedding day unless it became a total diaster and ur money went to waste lol god forbid. This is the one day where it all about you and hubby and all your friends family coworkers will be in the same room just to celebrate for you. Our original budget wa slile 20-25 omg i wish lol. My mom n dad are helping us with certain things and that has lifted alot off our shoulders. But ppl have been doing this forever get married then buy the house. Now ppl try to think bout where it better to spend ur money. I def domt recommend getting into debt for amwedding try to do it within your means so it really doest set you back to buying a house in a few yrs. Enjoy the planning cause before you know it its alllll over
