Would You Send A Gift?

Would You Send A Gift?

I have a friend who I went to school with and we were close. We had a slight falling out when we met up on a vacation together a few years ago but still remained friends. I asked her to be a bridesmaid when I was getting married but then she was really difficult when it came to the bridesmaid dress. To make a long story short on that, she wouldn't send money for her dress (she lives out of state) so they would all come from the same dye lot. She said she needed to see the dress and try it on before she would pay for it to make sure she liked it. I got really aggravated and basically she ended up not being in the bridal party but was still invited. We still kept in touch through brief emails and then one day out of the blue, I received an engagement announcement from her parents. She never once mentioned she was dating anyone serious even when I asked her a few times if she was dating anyone. She's very odd in that every little thing is a secret with her. I sent her a card to congratulate her on the engagement. Now she's saying how she's going to have a small wedding with just family since all their friends and coworkers are somehow all connected. I don't want to sound mean but she doesn't have many friends. I said we invited family, friends and close coworkers because we wanted them to share in our celebration. She replied that the wedding day is more for the bride and groom and that she would share it with her bridal party there (where she's living now). I'm assuming this is her way of saying you won't be invited, which is fine with me. At this point I'm not even going to ask her about her wedding plans anymore because it's like pulling teeth and even when she does answer it's so vague. So my question is, if we don't get an invitation should I still send a gift? She sent us a gift but she was invited. What would you do?

I wouldn't bother. She doesn't sound like she's involved with trying to e a good friend to you, so I wouldn't put so much effort into it.

I think the fact that you sent a card to wish her congratulations is more than enough!

If she can only go out of her way to tell you that you won't be invited to the wedding she didn't even tell you about, I wouldn't bother sending a card or a gift.
