would you use a family friend for a vendor????

I have a family friend who does weddings, and all other occasions..her work is nice. she did a family christening and did an arrangement that was beautiful..it was obviously on the smaller size since it was just a christening...anyhow i am getting a bit of pressure from some family members to use her..i know she will be good, i have heard of her doing weddings in manhattan and she also once worked with a woman who did a celebrity wedding.

i just feel like i should stick with someone that i have heard more reviews about. i was planning on going to flowers by brian since my sister and friend used them and had a great experience.

what would you do???

Hmmm... I'm not sure. It sounds like you really don't want to use her. So, I wouldn't. If it were me, I would express my concern w/ her and see what she has to say. I would almost always rather give business to a family member or friend then to a stranger (unless of course it's something where they're 'selling money' or have to know a lot about my money situation i.e. stock broker, day trader, loan Officer) that's JMO. Good luck!!

I wouldn't use her...What if something happens and she does a bad job this would ruin a friendship with your family
It sounds like you don't want to use her.

Meet with her one time. I'm sure she has photos of arrangements she's done in the past and you'll feel more comfortable meeting with her. Then you can tell your family you gave it a fair shot.

Do you want to use her? Are you only afraid to use her because you haven't gotten that much feedback? If she does a lousy job what kind of recourse will you have? Will you be able to complain to her? How will your family feel if you start complaining because you are unhappy?

Ask yourself some of those questions and then decide. Or you can go look at the vendors you are interested in and include her, and compare pricing and quality and then make an educated choice.

Thanks for the feedback..it's not that i don't want to use her.,.it's just that i am concernedl, since i do not know anyone who used her for a wedding... i think i will go to a few vendors, get some prices and more ideas of what i want and then go see her books...get a price from her and then make a final decision.....

I am not so sure if I would use her. I think I would feel bad pretty or asking the same from her as the other vendors. And what if something went wrong? But I think it also depends on your relationship with her. I would do what you said check other vendors out and her. Good luck.

I personally do not like mixing business and family/friends together. If I were getting pressure to use her from other people, I would not do it b/c if something does end up going wrong, I wouldn't know how to deal with the situation.

However, I would treat her just like another vendor. Still do your research, get quotes, ideas from other vendors and her, and compare and contrast, and then make that decision.

I wont be using a family friend for my wedding. What if something goes wrong? This really is just business and if I have a prob with something and I need to put my foot down I don't want hard feelings with any of my family members. Its unfortunate b/c we know a few great vendors who have offered up services.

I never mix business with pleasure. Too risky, IMHO

Personally ...this is just me .....I am not using anyone - we have people who DJ - to hair and Photos - and I know that i am the type of person that if i am not happy i will not bite my toung so instead of having to keep my mouth shout i would rather just spend the extra money ....but thats just me
