Re: WOW.....

just so you know.. FH & I are paying for EVERYTHING regarding our wedding...his parents paid for our HM and my mom paid for my bridal shower hall rental..but that's only 5% of our budget/expenses.... I didn't intend on buying a dress for the amount that I did.. but I tried on ones that were far less and they didn't have the impact of wow this is the DRESS... it maybe ridiculous to you but it made senset o us to buy the dress that was meant for us.. the dress that we will reflect on in our pictures, our videos and in our memories. so try not to say that it's 'ridculous'.

thanks!

Re: WOW.....

I used to think it was ridiculous to pay tons of money for a dress I will only be wearing once. Don't get me wrong, I do have a figure for what I find reasonable and unaffortable. People will vary on what their choosing to slurge on. For me it will the photographer and my makeup.

Re: WOW.....

personally, i could never spend more than $1500 on a wedding gown...and i managed to spend far less....i, too, am amazed when i hear that people spend thousands...it just baffles me...but that's ME. i think that's what the OP meant. it was hard to spend what i did spend on my gown. i actually made it a point to NOT bother to look at gowns that were over 2k...and i absolutely loved my gown...so i didn't settle to satisfy a budget either...b/c to be honest, the whole wedding was paid for and we had no limits. i still couldn't spend thousands on my dress...just seemed silly to ME.

Re: WOW.....

I didn't spend a crazy amount on my dress either. I bought what I fell in love with, and it just so happened to not cost a ridiculous amount of money.

Re: WOW.....

but I was not reprimanding you in any way... but I saw a dress (the one I bought) in a wedding mag.. and I said oh this can't be more than $1,000-$1500.. but when I got the bridal salon and it was almost tripled .. I said ok.. let's put this dress to the side and let's what else the salon brought out for me... and I tried on 20 dresses and I reverted back to the most expensive one... was I nervous for making such a big purchase on a dress.. hell yeah! but like I said in my earlier post...it was THE ONE... and I had to have it.. (after I asked FH if I could buy it)

so yes go on and express yourself... i was doing the same.

Re: WOW.....

well i didnt pay more than 1k..infact w/ tax my dress was still under 700$! But my thoughts on it some girls feel this is that 1 special day to shine.......so if it means they get a 99$ davids bridal special or a Vera Wang....well so be it! Good for them!! I too cant see spending k's of $$$ of a gown but some ppl see the need so i say more power too them!! Also MANY couples on here are paying for their own dresses, halls, limos etc......my parents as a gift gave 1 lump some but the rest is up to us!!!

Re: WOW.....

I was actually thinking that the majority of folk didn't spend too terribly much on their dresses! I don't plan to spend over 1K - but I would think under 2K is fairly reasonable.

My girlfriend is getting married this weekend and her dress was some obscene amount of money that could have easily been the downpayment on a house.

I have to say, everyone has one thing that is most important to them. John and I are footing the bill for the whole shabang so we decided that the hall and photographer were going to be our big purchased. I picked the dress of my dreams out of a magazine and tried on a million before I even looked at it because I feared the price. It ended up being under 1K which is what I said I would spend BUT I loved that dress and if it was more... I would have paid it.

Re: WOW.....

I think it's totally a matter of choice.

I spent very little. I would have spent more if I had the budget for it.

Re: WOW.....

i personally can't imagine spending thousands on a dress, but i also cringe when i hear peopel spend less than 500, as stated previously it is all a matter of personal choice
fh and i are paying for our whole wedding ourselves, but my mom did pay for my dress, and i felt bad when one dress i really liked was 1500, i tried to keep it at a price i felt was reasonable and wouldn't be outrageous for my mom,
photos on the other hand, i went crazy!!

Re: WOW.....

I planned on paying no more than $300 for my dress I did good though bc my dress is only a tiny bit over $500. I went to Phylis at bridal elegance. Also, without knowing, I chose a Mori Lee dress. Her dresses are very beautiful and very affordable. It was the first and only dress I saw and tried on. DARLIN' I am going to look FABULOUS!!!!
