hmm interesting.
these ads and commercials that have come out in the past few years have actually been quite disturbing. Was it enough for me then to quit smoking? No. But it did scare me.
It would be a little weird to see these advertisements on a cigarrette (i mean basically the company has to put a label on their own produc to DISCOURAGE people to stop smoking hence not buy their product), BUTTTTT i think it could be effective for some people. There are some people that are just so addicted and don't care about the health effects, that this ad prob won't even phase them.
If it can help prevent people stop smoking, i say it's a good thing. These cigarette companies make and have enough $ and will still make $ - selfish and greedy bastards.

I am biased because I am a health teacher. lol.
I see the points of the tobacco industry from a business standpoint, because it will work against them. But if can stop someone from smoking that is a life saved. Smoking is the number #1 drug that kills people and not illegal drugs....so in the end it costs the US billions in health care.
So I think it's a great move. They have been doing this in Europe for years.

FH's grandmother died of emphysema from years and years of smoking. She carried around an oxygen tank for the last years of her life. I have no doubt she'd still be around if she hadn't smoked.
On top of that, my sister's FIL is suffering from lung cancer from years of smoking. He had to have his voice box removed and had a tracheostomy tube to breathe.
And my godmother was just diagnosed with lung cancer. She's been smoking a pack a day since she was 14.
Smoking kills. People SHOULD be scared.

but it boggles my mind that govt knows how bad smoking is, to the point that they have created all these ads against smoking....ummmm hello!!!!! make it illegal!!!!!!!!!!!! BAN smoking!!!!!!!
they will never ever do it because they make too much money off the taxes and probably money off the costs of tobacco cessation products.
i understand the tobacco companies point, that yes it will hurt their business...but at the same time, you know what, you are selling something that is proven to kill people and make them ill, it's the price you have to pay to be in such a disgusting business!
