WOW! Usually trips home to visit my mom are brutal! (VERY wedding related)
As some of you know, my family lives in Canada. I have Passover off so I came home to visit, without FH cuz he has to work. My parents are divorced and DO NOT get along and my mom is CONSTANTLY b!tching that my dad doesnt give her her alimony etc ect. So basically my dad and FILs are splitting the wedding costs about 60/40 (my dad bearing the bulk). They have all been VERY generous and I have never felt like I was on a very tight budget, but I have worked very hard to stay in budget. My mom since we started planning constantly wants to make changes and add things that are just not in the budget. I always point this out to her. So today I get home she immediately gets on me about how I make her feel guilty for not giving us money for the wedding (which is never my intention I just try to be clear that we can;t keep adding things we don't have money for) blah blah and I'm like wonderful ANOTHER lecture. NOPE WRONG!
Mom tells me she did some magic and came up with a HUGEEEE sum of money she is handing me a check for. She wants half of it to go to wedding stuff so we can do any add-ons we like, and the other half to go into the fund we have as a nest-egg to put down on a house in the near-ish future. And this is not an insignificant amount of money. Half of it will be plenty to help with some add-ons that she specifically wants and to have ANYTHING to add to our house fund is so amazing.
I'm kind of in shock now and haven't even really processed this. It brings our wedding budget up ALOT which is amazing, but of course because of my relationship with my mom I'm a little worried that hidden strings will come out and she will use this t hang over our heads. I'm trying not to think like that because this is SUCH an amazing gift!
