i just got a call from my FBIL and he wanted to know what i wanted for xmas and he was like $150 min, First off me and my FBIL arent really close and why would he buy me a gift so he can get one in exchange? Im really feel uncomfy with this, Last year i got him a card with $20's in it. Money is really tight this year with my fh just starting work and not going to get paid until the 13 and having to pay his car insurrance and he is lefted with like nothing. So the gifts that we are buying are from the both of us so my FH doesnt have to pay alot this xmas and we are saving for a wedding. I really hope that he doesnt want a 150 gift back in return. OH right about now i dont want anything from him,
What should i do? TIA

I would tell him that even though the thought is very nice and appreciated you are not going to be able to spend that much on a gift . Tell him being with the family during the holidays is gift enough.
Sometimes people forget the meaning of christmas and just want the gifts. I think you are right by thinking with that limit you would spend the same on a gift.

I would just tell him that you are saving for the wedding and you asking friends and family to not get lavish presents for xmas since this year you can not return the gesture.... I think he will understand.

Maybe giving you the gift is his way of a peace offering to fix your relationship with each other.

I would call him and say thank you so much for thinking of me but money is tight with the wedding coming up and I'd feel awful if I couldn't give you something

yep. that's exactly what i'd do. most people get it when you're saving for a wedding.

You know, not to sound strange but it sounds to me like he may have been given a gift, has nothing to do with it, and wants to give it away... and therefore is getting you to exchange?
I know people who have done that. fh and I dont exchange with his family, we just get things throughout the year adn save them for christmas this way they dont feel the need to have to go out and buy we dont tell them :)
but definitely be honest with him and tell him things are really tight right now...

Re: wried call ( vent)
that is a really weird phone call to get...how do you call and give someone a dollar amount of a gift?
I would just tell him the situation before he goes out and spends that much.
