To have an envelope/card box at our engagement party? I plan on decorating a white square box with pictures of us...sort of like each side is a diff scrapbook page.....but it will have the slit to put cards in it if people bring them.
Is it tacky? Does it suggest that we EXPECT gifts? If so, I dont want to give off the wrong impression. I just thought it would be nice to have it there for the ones that do bring a card.
Suggestions?

I think it depends what kind of party your having. If it is only like 30 people I don't think you should do it, but it is a large party go for it!

I had one and people with envelopes didnt even notice it I found a bunch of cards on the table right next to the box So I think it's good to have it there.

I haven't thought about one for myself, but the last e-party I went to had one. She just wrapped a large gift box and put a slit in it. It seemed to do the trick but the table was definitely full of wrapped gifts by the end of the night!

I actually had the same question.
Our e-party is this friday, I think I'm just going to bring a small basket with me and see how it goes, if people put cards on the table I'll put the basket out.

Yay! How exciting!! Ours is on Saturday!!! I hope the weather holds out!! eek!! (mine's in the backyard haha)
I agree I was just going to put a basket out, but especially for a big party I think a card box is perfectly appropriate!!

If it's a simple cardbox I think its fine with the number of people you have.

Yahhhh I'll do the sun dance for you! Ours is inside, but gorgeous weather would be nice because there is a little outdoor area where all the men would like to smoke cigars

I think if you feel uncomfortable putting out a card box at first you could always wait and see if people are in fact leaving cards. When you see a lot on the table just put out the box!! I think if people are going to be giving gifts (especially cards) they will understand you wanting to keep them all together!

I had one (see my album) and it was perfect and I got compliments on how cute it was on the table.
I got tons of cards and would have been afraid of them all getting lost on the table with all the gifts so I'm really happy I had one!
