So... my father passed away 15 yrs ago so I've put the issue of the father daughter dance in the back of my head but I need to figure it out.
I'm either a) not doing anything
b) will dance with my mom for about a min., and then have the MC invite all fathers and daughters in the room up to dance w/us in memory of my father.
My mom isn't thrilled about dancing w/me and thinks I should dance with my uncle who is walking me down the aisle. And nothing personal against him, but I don't want it to feel as if I'm replacing him. FH isn't thrilled about b) either cuz his dad is also deceased and he doesn't want his sister to feel bad and my sister's father (diff. father) is also deceased so she too might feel bad. Both my mom and FH think b) will be too depressing.
Thoughts?

Re: WWYD, father daughter dance
I think if you feel uncomfortable dancing with your mom and/or your uncle that maybe you should just skip it.... but i would think that some how you would want to memorialize your father i just cant think of how.

I think you should start the dance with your uncle, as he's the one walking you down the aisle, then have your mom cut in.. I really like the idea of you and your mom sharing that moment. I don't know if I would invite all the dads to share a dance with their daughter, because that might be a little sad.
i'm so sorry for your loss

Re: WWYD, father daughter dance
Thats a tough one.. My sis in law's father passed a year before her wedding and she had danced with her brother .. It was very nice but also very emotional.. They danced to 'I hope you dance'.. I feel like if you dont have a brother , then maybe dance with someone your close with like your uncle. I dont think it would be like your replacing him but maybe sharing the memory of a dance with the closest guy in your life next to your father if that makes sense?

I had similar situation, so I skipped it all together. I had my uncle walk me down the aisle and then skipped having father/daughter dance with having my uncle fill in, for me it was just easier and felt it was less emotional than for people

If your mother's not comfortable doing a mother/daughter dance, I'd probably skip it all together.

I would skip it, Doesn't sound like anyone will be happy with it.

I have the same situation, my dad passed away 7 years ago. My brother is walking me down the isle, and we're dancing to 'my wish' by Rascal Flatts.

what if you and FH did a dance in honor of your fathers? Something that represents how you both feel about them and then if you wanted to ask people to join you, maybe not just the dads, that would be nice to remember them by?

DH mother passed away in high school . We played a song dedicated to her. It started out with just DH and I dancing then a all his brothers and sibters and neices and nephews came up and we kinda ended up in a group hundled together dancing as one. It was very special.

I don't think it's really necessary to replace it with anything. If the family is uncomfortable with the alternative options, I'd just skip it.

I agree with this.. and I'm sorry for your loss if it just doesn't feel right just have something in memory of your dad, maybe at the ceremony?
