WWYD? Update

WWYD? Update

FH is friend's with a couple that have been married for 10 years. They are planning to renew their vows and throw a big wedding since they had a civil wedding.

So I find out the date two weeks before its going to happen which is this saturday. I was waiting to see if we would get invited because if we didn't there was no way I was going to invite them to our wedding (that might sound b**chy).

Anyways they said they were going to deliver the invitations to us and we still have not got them. They say that they want us there, but have been to busy to stop by. Couldn't they just mail it? Are we not worth 44 cents?

I told FH that I don't want to go unless I have an invitation and he totally disagrees. He only cares that we were verbally invited. I just feel like we are not completely wanted there. I know that I am going to have to get them a card and money as a gift if I go. But if they can't invite us properly why should I bother spending money on them.

Am I overreacting? Should I just go?

**********************UPDATE*********************
So I ended up going because the couple called and said they really wanted us there. I decided to make FH happy and go. We ended up giving them a small gift amount. It was obvious that she really didn't give many invitations out because the room was set up for about 55 people and about 30 showed up and at least ten of that was family.

I could tell the bride was pissed that she paid all of that money and didn't fill up the room. I had a good time at least.

Re: WWYD?

I would feel weird going without a formal invite. I agree that they should've sent you guys one... could you imagine just telling people to come to your wedding and not sending them an invite?? Someone just showed up (supposedly verbally invited) to a friend's luncheon and didn't have a place to sit! I would be really embarrassed if that happened to me

I dont think you are over reacting at all, i would be on the same page as you. if they are doing the big wedding thing now i would want an invite actually saying i was invited. otherwise i would take it as if they are just talking outta their a$$ that we were actually invite.
i mean i have seen so many people bump into someone who they never planned on inviting and gave them some sorta b.s. about the invites not going out yet, or we will get around to it. meanwhile the whole time there is no invite.

is your FH very close to them? if he is and feels very strongly about going i would suck it up and go to make him happy. but i wouldnt go to crazy gift wise. i mean after all (and not for this to sound mean or bitchy at all but) it is their renewal.

I totally understand your concern...did they do formal invites? Then it was poor etiquette on their part to not send you a formal invitation. your fiance is a man and doesn't see the point in formality because they are friends. The problem is that it is so close it feels like a snub. Me? I wouldn't go - and they would be on my C guest list for my wedding

i would just ask them flat out, since they opened the idea to you in the first place.

'so we are so excited to see you renew your vows next weekend, just remind me what time it starts so we make sure we dont miss a moment of your special day'

this leaves it completely open for them to know that you are expecting to show up. and if for some reason they dont want you there, they never should have promised an invite in the first place. (formal or not)

That happened to me last year. We were obviously B list, (I didn't think we'd be invited at all actually) but it didn't matter. We went and had a fantastic time.

yeah, it sounds like you got the 'oops they found out about it' invite, not cool.

I don't think you're overeacting. I would feel the same way. They are either being a bit tacky by not putting it in the mail or really don't have one for you.. either way, I don't think I would go. If you don't wind up getting a formal invite, then you are off the hook for you wedding :)
