Wyndham Hotel and Resort - where to go?!

Wyndham Hotel and Resort - where to go?!

I was hoping I can get some opinions on LIW before I make a VERY big decision....

FI and I are considering a destination wedding at the Wyndham Hotel and Resort - however, there are TONS on locations....we've narrowed it down to a few...(we want to get married on the beach)
1. Puerto Rico
2. Bahamas
3. Jamaica
4. Key West

There are so many pros and cons of each, that we're really not sure where to go!

I was hoping that you 'experts' could offer some feedback on the above locations...whether you've been on vacation or on your honeymoon, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Also, do you think contacting a travel agent would be a good idea?

TIA!!

my sugestion would be to choose a location that you like of course but that is also affordable for your guest.
and definitely talk to a travel agent and they can offer you advice.
I would also recommend for you to post this on the dw board on the knot, the girls are extremely helpful and can even give you personal accounts on the resorts.

Thanks for your suggestion. It's hard to pick a place we like since we've never been to any of the locations - we're merely looking at photographs online!!

How do I find the DW part of the knot's website? I can't seem to locate it.

Thanks again!! :)

Re: Wyndham Hotel and Resort - where to go?!

I would rule out Key West. I say this for a few reasons:

1. Both Wyndhams in Key West have gotten mixed reviews
2. Key West and the keys in general are not known for their beaches. They are man made and very rough, not what you would imagine being in FL.
3. There are no direct flights to Key West. You have to transfer from either Miami, Ft. Lauderdale or another south FL city which I think it's $200 more for the connection, or a 4 hour drive from Miami, and most of the way it's one lane!!

I know the one in PR comes highly recommended, I have family there, and my mother always said if she had to go back she would want to stay there! (You're thinking of the El Conquistador, correct?)

I don't know much about the other two. There's a great website though you can check for reviews of all the hotels.....it's Tripadvisor.com.

Hope this helps!!!

ok... Weird!! My Post came up blank...

I will write it all over

KEY WEST IS AMAZING!!! My FH and I originally wanted to get married at the WYNDHAM CASA MARIINA... It is AMAZING!

We went on vacation there 2 yrs ago, and we saw an outside wedding there, it was beautiful, The ride down is a bit annoying... but by the time you get there... you forget about evergthing. We wanted to get marreid there sooooooo bad... but too many people couldn't take off to actually go, so we decided against a destination wedding... it wouldn't be the same without all the family there.

Whatever you decided I am sure you will plan a fantastic wedding!

Thanks for your input :)

I was interested in Key West, but I am ALL about getting married on a beach, and if there aren't any down there.....then that's out (thanks for that information!).

We were looking into the Wyndham in Puerto Rico - El Conquistador. FI has been to PR and loved it down there - so I have a funny feeling that's where we'll end up :) Also, Jet Blue has great rates to PR, which will help out a bit.

That Tripadvisor.com site is great -- HOWEVER -- the reviews are SO mixed. Some people love the resort, and others HATE! How can reviews be sooo different?

I have to agree. FI and I stayed at the Wyndam in Key West and did not like it at all. We were down there for a wedding...flew to ft lauderdale and drove 5 hours to key west. the hotel was over priced (and we got a discount, being with the wedding) for what was offered. the beaches were not what i expected, they were rocky and small. key west itself was ok, but nothing great, i think you could put your money to better use at other resort.

Thanks for your feedback regarding key west...

does anyone know if they offer 'all inclusive' packages at the wyndham resorts?

I don't know if the Wyndham in Aruba does DWs or not, but they are right on the beach and it's a really nice hotel. We stayed at another hotel, but we walked around the Wyndham with a future stay in mind and we liked it.

My brother has decided to get married at 'the Couthern Mopst House' in Key West Florida. I've seen pics and it looks amazing. Everyone I have talked to says that Key West is beautiful!

My cousin owns the Ritz Carton in Jamaica and I know its beautiful there as well

I think it depends on the amount you want people to spend to travel. Getting to Key West seems the most inexpensive

I've stayed at the Wyndham Casa Marina in Key West and it was quite nice. Its actually got one of the few sandy beaches in Key West and while we were staying there a couple was having their wedding there. They have a big pier with a gazebo set up on it that was beautiful in the sunset. There are probably nicer places to go, but i felt that i have to defend Key West. Its a great place!

I agree, TripAdvisor is a good way to get an idea of what other have to say about a place, but keep in mind that everyone's opinions differ on what makes a place good or bad. However, if you get overwhelming positive or negative respsonses to a place, thats a good indicator of what a place might be like.
We found it very helpful when planning where to go on our honeymoon.
A travel agent could also help you with this.

Good luck!

Re: Wyndham Hotel and Resort - where to go?!

Let me correct myself, I am not knocking Key West in general, I really liked it. But if you're imagining the ceremony on the powdery white sand beach, then I would say no. And last time I checked (a friend went there in September) he had to pay $200 extra for the flight + connection because there are no directs to Key West. The drive from Miami is 4 hours on a GOOD day. If theres an accident, you're screwed!!

I have friends who live in Miami that go to Key West often and one friend who works for the sheriff's dept in the Keys, so I hear it all.

There are a lot of other Wyndhams in the carribean. I would check out your options.

Also, in addition to Tripadvisor.com, you can check the chat boards on Fodors.com, I have found the people on there to be great with helpful info!!

I worked with someone who was in a wedding at the one in Puerto Rico. She thought the whole thing was fantastic. The pictures were stunning. They closed down a restaurant for their reception. The ceremony was on a cliff type thing and the natural surroundings looked so amazing. The co-worker was the sister of the bride and she said the whole entire family & friends were treated with top notch service from the planning over the phone all the way through to the beautiful wedding.
Good Luck!

Re: Wyndham Hotel and Resort - where to go?!

My best friend and MOH was married at El Conquistador and her pictures were amazing! She also said that her ceremony (she eloped, so it was just her DH and her...no one else ) was touching, special and unique - a lot more than she was expecting from her 'quickie' wedding.

She planned it under a month and the staff was awesome...I helped her as well and found them to be very quick at responding to emails (the catering and planning staff, I mean). She also said that she wished she had enough money to do the ceremony at their private off-shore island - Palomilla. Suposedly, it's beautiful.

Hope I helped!
