X post: 2nd Guessing Your Gown Once You've Ordered It...

Sorry that I'm crashing- I just figured it's more likely that there are people on here who have experienced this than 2011 brides...

I ended up ordering my gown very early. It came in already yesterday, and I previewed it- even though my wedding isn't til February.

I liked the look much better when she clipped the the one that was 6 sizes too big back in the Fall... my FMIL and FSIL said it looked beautiful and that I was being silly/etc...it was pretty..but it didn't flatter me as much as I remembered, and it looked boring- just like the dresses of recent friends who got married (not that theirs were boring..they just all had the same look)...I also don't think FH is going to like it cause he didn't like theirs...and I'm just really not so sure about it. However, I already put down 50% and they ordered it...so it's mine.

Did any of you guys order your gowns and then change them??

I know some girls on here did do that. I ordered my gown VERY early, like 18 months before the wedding. I found it in a magazine and was like 'I NEED TO HAVE THIS DRESS!' After I went a while with out seeing it I was having second thoughts, so I made an excuse to go see my dress and then I fell in love with it all over again. I think I just missed it, if that makes any sense.

Good luck!

I ordered my gown LOVINGGG it! Then, I proceeded to look at our gowns in bridal magazines and love some of those too. For a minute I kind of wished that I tried on more dresses, but then I saw a real-wedding pic on here of another girl with my dress and realized that I realllllllly love my dress.

It will fit like a glove once they do the alterations.

First - Im sorry youre going through that - I went through the same thing. I actually had a gown custom made, waited 8 months and when it came in I felt like it wasnt my dress. Its beautiful - just not me ... Anyway - I went to Kleinfeld with 4 months to go and changed my dress and veil!

Good luck with your dress! You still have time to get one if youre truly unhappy ..

I think a lot of girls go through this. I know I definitely second guessed my choice, and I only ordered it 8 months in advance. There are so many beautiful gowns it's hard to settle for just one. But I just remind myself of why I chose my gown to begin with and I feel much better.

Thanks, ladies!! :) And it already does fit like a glove...it barely needs any alterations- just a little in the bust...I'm very small busted and petite...I think some of the extra fabric seemed to elongate my torso and make me look a little more hour-glass shaped with the sample! I also never got to see what the back looked like with it clipped...because it laces up (which also helps it to fit like a glove)...and I didn't really like it yesterday.

don't judge until it's taken in. I felt same way EXACTLY (I ordered mine early) but at my final fitting...it looked perfect.
DON't WORRY!

ps mine ties too and you have to tie it kinda tight for it to really give you that look.
Plus I noticed when it was bustled it look better. The train can make it look bumpy at certain angles.

wah..i just typed a whole long response and it got deleted.

anyway....Yes, I did.

I ordered my gown 1 year before the wedding. Everytime I saw it (when it came in, first fitting, etc) I had major doubts. I kind of kept them to myself bc I felt like once it fit properly (it was ordered really big) I would be much happer...but after the second fitting I realized I wasn't happy. I finally broke down to my mom and told her I didn't like my dress.

soo 38 days before my wedding we went out and found a new dress for me. I LOVED my new gown and I am so happy that I didnt just wear the original gown that I was unhappy in.

I think you should try the gown on again and see if you are really unhappy. You could also try on some other gowns because you may either find something you LOVE or realize why you loved your gown in the first place.

good luck!!

Re: X post: 2nd Guessing Your Gown Once You've Ordered It...

Thank you ladies so much for calming me down...Speaking of long responses (that stinks!), I put this on Brides Helping Brides when someone asked me for pics to clarify a bit more:

Sure. It's a Demetrios design. Now, for some reason, the Demetrios website is not loading pics for me right now :( ...I will try to add them later..my computer is also being funky...maybe after I re-boot I can edit this. I didn't take any pics at the salon, because there were signs that said cameras weren't allowed.

Let me take you guys through the story of how I came to it first so you can get a little better idea of where I'm coming from. Originally, I thought I wanted a halter gown, because I'm a singer and had a very flattering $200 halter gown from David's that I used for one of my recitals. I loved how my figure looked in it, so my original plan was to try to get a great deal on a beautiful white halter gown. FH also happened to mention to me one time that he liked halter gowns much better than strapless/etc.

Then, I saw Demetrios B154 (Blue Collection) in their magazine... At first, I thought it was way over the top (definitely not was I was looking for...think Swan Lake in a wedding dress) but I became obsessed with it for a while... I called up Demetrios salons, and there were only one or two samples of that dress floating around Macy's in the midwest...I was kinda annoyed and didn't want to pay $50 just to have it shipped to try on in a big size. There were pictures of it all over their magazine/etc. so I didn't understand why there weren't any in or around NY.

One day, I went with FMIL just to get an idea of how the Demetrios gowns fit and see if it was worth ordering the sample of that one. After trying on a few that our salesperson said had similar skirts, I thought the skirt would be too big. That salesperson spent sooo much time with FMIL and me, and she tried on so many different styles. She tried one dress on me finally that I was really happy with...However, then she decided to try one more on me...FMIL and her convinced me to get the last one, because it was more appropriate for a night/evening wedding as the other one was a lighter material. It made sense to me and looked really beautiful when she clipped it. They were also having a great sale. I went for it, but I never had that crying moment or that 'omg this is my dress' moment. I love my FMIL but wished I had gone dress shopping with my sisters instead (our mom passed away 4 years ago).

The gown I ended up with is Demetrios 9700 (Princess Collection). The skirt is bigger than I realized anyway and I'm changing my prejudice against big, tulle skirts now...

Part of me wants to just go try other dresses on to see how I feel...I only went that one day! The thing is ...I wish there were somewhere that I could actually try the gown in my size before ordering it, now that the clipping thing happened...I feel like with some gowns that really makes a difference. (I'm a size 4 and most of them are 10s...is there anywhere that you could try them on in a 4??)

Again, I'll try to get those pics up here..but those are the style numbers for now if you wanna check them...

Thanks for all your help, ladies...I feel like one of those crazy brides on tv that I thought I'd never be...

i think its normal to second guess your gown, i know i did.. but then when i went for my first fitting i was glad i stuck with my original choice, and the day of the wedding everyone commented how my dress was 'made for me'... there is a reason that you chose your dress, so don't worry!

Yeah, I am going through the same thing right now with my dress. I loved it when I put it on, but I feel like I may have rushed into it because of other people's opinions. I think it's a normal feeling and like you, my dress was a way bigger sample that was only clipped so it may look different when it's my size. It has since arrived at the salon so I called yesterday to go this Friday to try it on. I want to make sure I love it because when I look at it online, I don't. It's just not the style I would have thought I would have ended up with and it makes me think that maybe I rushed. So, I think what your feeling is normal but I would go and try your dress on again, if you don't love it, then you should still look. This is the one time in your life that you will wear a wedding gown so make sure it's the one you love.

when my dress came in it was too big and it didnt flatter at all. i just had to pray and trust alterations....in the end, it worked out fine and i was just as happy as the first day i tried it on (with all those clips)

dont worry. alterations are wonderful! just make sure you tell them what YOU WANT! dont leave unless you are fully satisfied with the alterations!!!
