X-post with BHB - Need help from Glenmar brides regarding deposit!

We were referred to John Harrison and asked to meet with him but were told we had to put down a 550 deposit before they would let us interview any of their photographers. We have some reservations about booking a studio without even meeting a photographer and it seems a bit strange -- does anyone know the reason for this or have this experience? And does anyone have any info on John?

I put down the same deposit when I booked with them. I never asked to interview a photographer beforehand - I figured I could have those conversations closer to the wedding.

With that said - I understand your reservations. However, I can see the business rationale behind Glenmar's position as well.

I never met with Glenmar but I can tell you that I would NEVER put down any money with any company before meeting the person that would be working for me.

Why don't you try a photography company that has only 1 photog. so you know who you are getting

I booked with Glenmar also without knowing that I was supposed to interview photographers...my cousin also booked them and thats how I found out so now I guess I have to make an appointment to go there and see the various work and choose people? what kind of things do u ask when interviewing a photographer?

I used Glenmar, all I could say is they are the shiftiest people alive. Biggest mistake of my bridal life. I had John- IMO he was not good. I'm sorry, but I am bitter. Please don't hate me if you love them.

Everyone has their good and bad experiences.

I would not say they are 'shifty' people on my end. They have been nothing but upfront throughout this process.

I am sorry you had a bad experience. My heart definitely goes out to you.

You should be careful of how you word stuff. Lots of girls on here booked them and reading that might upset some brides.

If you have a specific problem with them, that is different that just writing they are 'shifty'

we booked withthem .. per good rec. from my moms co workers who have used themnumerous times for bar/ bat mitzvas and weddings....

i havent heard a horrid thing about them...

then again.. i have to have faitth that things will be ok for us.

I totally agree that you have to have faith in your decisions!! They cannot be that horrible or they wouldn't be in business still. There were vendors that my friends swore by and I was so excited to meet and hated them...It all depends on the day you go, who you meet with and a million other things. That's why there are many vendors, because not ever vendor is for every single bride.

Trust your instincts that you made the right decision for you and your FH!!!

I met with Glenmar...and wasn't happy with them. Their photography was definitely awesome, but I didn't like the hard sell. If it wasn't for their aggressive sales tactics, we probably would have booked them.

We booked them.. I thought they were great to work with. They were very helpful with all the questions/comments/concerns that we had. Also they work was beautiful. Knew a bunch of people who used them also

Wow. I'm so curious what you didn't like your experience with them. Please FM me if you don't mind.

We booked with them and had a great experience. They're a Woodbury recommended vendor and we loved their photos and they were very professional when we visited. They weren't pushy at all, very unlike other photographers that we met with that pulled the 'you better book today' garbage.

We booked with Arthur but no, we have not met him yet. I haven't really worried about it because I explained who we are and what we're looking for; that we don't want someone who'll make us feel uncomfortable and I really don't want 'sexy' shots b/c I'm a bit nervous infront of the camera and the lady recommended Arthur. We happened to like his photos best in the books too.

Best of luck. Glenmar is one of the vendors I'm most happy with.

I agree with Col in that calling them 'shifty' doesn't really help the situation.

I have full faith in Glenmar - however, I respect that brides may have had bad experiences.

Instead of just posting that they are shifty and the biggest regret - please give other brides advice or tell others of your situation leaving emotion out of it.....

I really do not want to upset anyone, but in all honesty, shifty is the best word to describe them. Were they outright liars- no, but did they promise things that were untrue- yes.

Leaving emotion out of it- all I can say for advice is please trust your instinct. Losing a deposit is worth it when you have a bad feeling. Wedding pictures are soo important to women. I just put my trust in every vendor. I assumed things would all work out. It totally did work out with everyone, but Glenmar. Honestly, beyond lying by ommision, the quality was not good. Ofcourse, i'm sure it depends on who they book you. All of those photographers vary. My video with them was great, but I know others who had a different video guy and were very unhappy. Sometimes you luck out, sometimes you don't. I'm beginning to accept that after hearing a lot of horror stories.
