I am .........FMIL is very goood about this stuff. And she showed me all the ones she wanted on the knot and then told me what color she was getting it in. Your FMIL is acting mighty 'bridal' she is not supposed to be in a surprise dress, you are...............talk about trying to steal some thunder....

i'm not considering FMIL went out this past weekend and picked out and ordered her dress for the wedding. what totally p**sed me off was that my mother didn't get hers yet and she was going to get something in the color FMIL BOUGHT!!!!! ![]()

I understand your concern, especially if she wanted to wear a white dress. Mine wore white to FBIL's wedding, & let's just say my FH made it clear there was to be NO WHITE again here. She actually invited us to go with her to look at the dress which was nice. I don't really understand what the big deal is about you guys wanting to see her dress....

i ssaw the dress, Fmil actually put the dress on to show me how it looks.. i love it too, it a nice navy blue

I would want to see it too if she made it clear she wanted to wear a white dress.Because she may just show up wearing a white dress,a nd what can you do about it on the day of?

my MIL called me before she ordered her dress - telling me she found something that she loved, but in black. she asked me if i would be offended - but i wasn't. she invited me to her fittings, so i was able to see the dress ahead of time. i loved her dress!!

My FMIL showed me her dress. It is beige and very elegant. If she had tried to keep it a secret from me I would stop telling her any of the wedding plans and tell her I chose a different gown. You are the bride, not her. She had her moment. Now she just needs to look nice and elegant and not draw too much attention to herself (the MOB should do the same)

When we went to order the bridesmaid dresses, she came and she was looking through the racks and she found one that she liked and that I liked and she tried it on and it looks so beautiful on her. It is Navy, the sample was beige with a black overlay. As long as the dress wasnt white or ivory or anything to bright i was ok with any other color

I went shopping with FMIL on Sunday. There were a few dresses she put on that I liked, and we discussed color. I'm happy, because I gave her the choice of Blue, Purple or Silver (in the shades we're using, of course), and she said she'd rather the blue or purple shades, because she wore Silver to both FH and FBIL's Bar Mitzvahs. As far as I'm concerned, if she's wearing one of the right colors and she's comfortable, I'm okay with it. I think I finally convinced her not to spend more than I spent on MY dress for hers though.
However, I had a similar situation with my MOH's wedding. MOH's mom has REALLY bad taste in clothing, and wanted to wear Fuschia. Yep, Fuschia. The color scheme was light pink and lilac. So MOH and I went out and did a LOT of research on dresses we thought would be nice (in the color scheme), and brought some back for her. She FLIPPED out on us! 'You're not dictating to MOG what she should wear, why me? I don't want to look Matronly. I don't want to look like the Mother of the Bride!' That last statement always especially cracked me up. Well, honey, 23 years ago you had a baby girl, and now she's getting married. That makes you the Mother of the bride. Would you rather look like the *Father* of the bride? How about King Kong?!
Anyway, I believe this is another case of the Crazy Gene around weddings. Get your FH to back you up on this - she cannot wear white.

My FMIL is the most awesome woman I know!! I'm very fortunate.
I went with her to go dress shopping everytime she went and was right by her side when she ordered it. I plan on going to everyone of her fittings as well.
Maybe tell her something like you want to see the dress so you can find the perfect corsage to match it... maybe that will change her mind...![]()
