I would be upset if I could not go ahead and start looking for a replacement. Especially if you have to pick up the slack and not get paid for it.
Ps I love your avatar!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you not allowed to quietly go about trying to find a replacement? If not, than no I don't think its right considering that you have to pick up all the slack.
By the way, love your avatar, and glad your posting.
Eta: I didn't realize my post is almost the same as heidla, we must have been on the same wave length!!!!

I think you might have to suck it up, sorry.
The reason is, is that if she does not leave, then what are you going to do with the replacement? Tell them 'sorry you really don't have the job now?'
Perhaps though the person looking for the other job can help you find a replacement. Then it might not take 2 weeks.
But it's not fair to interview now only to find out the person is not leaving her job and then you have a bunch of people vying for a job that isn't really there.
Sorry
ETA: however I think you should demand (nicely) you get either comp time or over time since you do have to go out of your own way (and quit your 2nd job) to take up the slack while looking for another replacement.

I agree with you! Working for the state system there are hard and fast rules that we can't do that, makes no sense but it all comes down to $$ here. If there are no rules in place about this then I would push the issue.

my company makes you stay in the position until a replacement is found if you are moving to another position in the company..the only thing that sucks about that is being the one who has to wait..sorry to hear you're going through this..you're in a tough position.

Do you have access to files - could you have a list of possibles already lined up that the minute you hear you can start contacting? I am sorry because it does sound like a lousey situation
