Re: Inivation wording drama - PLEASE HELP

Do what makes YOU happy. If you were to dig out your invite in 20 years to show your kids, whose names would you want to see on it?

who is paying for a majority of the wedding?

I have divorced parents and used the phrase 'With their families...'

jmo- if you're paying for it maybe your should think about wording it : jack ___ and jill___ and their parents, request the honor of your presence..... or maybe even state the parents names. i think it would cause tension if you are paying for it and you only decide to list one of your parents. again jmo

Re: Inivation wording drama - PLEASE HELP

Some in-laws are very picky about having their names on the invite.
My sister's in-laws were very insulted that the invite didn't say 'son of XXXX'. They didn't pay a dime towards the wedding, so I don't know what their problem was!
I think if the in-laws don't pay, they shouldn't be named, but that's just me.
Do what you want to do

I would put your inlaws names in there. It is a nicer way to start off your marriage. You don't want to offend his parents. We are paying for our wedding ourself, but my mom is putting in some $ and his parents are putting is some $, but 1/2 of what my mom put in. I woudl still have his parents name on the invite. JMO.

Re: Inivation wording drama - PLEASE HELP

I personally think that both sets of parents should be included. Even if it was your parents paying for it, I would think it should say 'son of Mr. and Mrs. ______ __________. If you chose not to do that, I think it should be phrased like mattituckprincess suggested. JMO.

Re: Inivation wording drama - PLEASE HELP

The way the invitations read shouldn't have anything to do with who's paying for it...

We chose to have both sets of parents on our invitation so we had:

Mr. and Mrs. xxxx
and
Mr. and Mrs. xxxx

request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their children

Jennifer Ann
and
Edward Valentino

Same here, my parents are footing almost all of the bill, we are putting his parents names on as well...
We are saying Mr. and Mrs. X invite you to celebrate the marriage of their daughter
Y to Z
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Blah blah

We are paying for almost all of it. Both sets of parents are helping but my parents are helping more and we put both parents names on the invitation but at the end.

ooh, I lke that
I was jsut putting , together with their paretns, but not putting our parents names. i wanted to include them , but I didn't
want it to be Mr & Mrs
& mrs & mrs invite you.
to the marriage of their children,

b/c really we are doing the inviting, planning and part of the paying.
I'm not sure if FH's parents are contributing yet, but I want to include them anyway, or else not include either set of parents, b/c he is an only child & his mom is a little touchy & sentimental.

ok, what about this:

love fills a lifetime and a lifetime begins this hour
mr. and mrs. William request the honour of your presence in the marriage of their daughter
Jessica
to
Jordan
Son of Mr. and Mrs. John

blah blah blah

that works
as long as they aren't paying

Re: Inivation wording drama - PLEASE HELP

That wording does imply that you're parents are hosting the party.
My parents are paying for the reception so I had their names on the top of the invite. My inlaws will go underneath their son's name...'son of Mrs and Mrs_____' I knwo that may annoy my parents but it doesn't imply that the grooms family is paying for it.

I don't know if this is a lillt wordy but:

Mary Smith, daughter of Mrs and Mrs...
and
John Jones , son of Mrs and Mrs...
request the honour of your presence at their wedding...
