Hmmm I never thought of that. We opened a joint account but still with my maiden name. When we opened it I asked about the name change and he said it was easy, to just bring a copy of the marriage license.

Re: Some advice that you might not be aware of....
I think if she deposited the checks and then took the money out at an atm instead of cashing them right away she would not have had a problem. That is because no matter who is bringing the check to the bank, it's still going into the account of the person it's made out to. DH signed the backs of all the checks and my sister deposited them and no questions were asked (but she did say they were our wedding gifts, I think banks understand those situations). If she was cashing them then she needs to give ID and all that stuff but not when depositing them so maybe depositing them and then using an ATM to retrieve the money is a better option.

I work for a financial institution. You just have to both sign the back, then have a copy of your marriage certificate.

hmm - I'm not changing my name. I hope people don't make it out to Mr. and Mrs!!!
I suppose we could just bring in the marriage certificate (we are already secretly married so we have the certificate).

We have a joint account at our bank. I just signed first maiden and then new last night, we had no problems. I now have my marriage license so I can change my name at the bank.
