Well your a bride so put yourself in your friends shoes. If you were her and she were your bridesmaid would you get upset if she missed your bach. party for a family reunion? what time does the reunion start? Maybe you can go for the first hour to meet people and show your face and then leave and meet up with the girls wherever they are? ( im sure they will be out later then the reunion anyway )

Re: Dilemma
I say go to your FMIL's, if you were my BM I would not be upset at all. Family commitment. More people will probably be upset if they don't get to meet you at FMIL's party

Re: Dilemma
Is there any possible way you can make an appearance at both-- leave the reunion early, then join the BP?

Re: Dilemma
If you could somehow make an appearance at both, that would be great. If not, I say go to the family gathering. I know that I would understand if one of my BM's had something like that to do with their families. It is so hard to coordinate everything. Life gets busier and busier.

Re: Dilemma
I would not be mad at all at a friend who could not make my bachelorette party and had a important reason like you do. I know I had many people who couldn't make mine and I was understanding. It is almost impossible to pick a day that works for a large group of people.

I suggest the same thing. However, in the event that they're both at precisely the same time, I would skip the family reunion, especially if I'm in the bridal party. But, if I were the bride, I'd be a little upset, but would completely understand.

Re: Dilemma
Ok-- obviously there is no way you can do both-- I would go to the family reunion.. then promise to take the bride out for a special girls night- just you and her..
You don;t want to put a riff with your FIL's..

I have a dilemma. One of my very good friend’s bachelorette party...is the same weekend as FMIL's family reunion party and I would be meeting some of those people for the first time who will be at my wedding. I feel soooooooo bad, I dont' know what to do. His mom expects me there. If I can' t make it to friend's, if you were her would you be upset or mad at me? I don’t’ know what to do. I am in the bridal party.
If you're in the bridal party, you just answered your own question. I would be pissed if one of my BMs went to their FMIL's family reunion rather than my bachelorette party. JMO.

Yeah, good idea. There are two mothers who can't make it that night either, so maybe the 3 of us can take her out to dinner one night.
I mean- I am sure I would be upset-- but your friend will understand- she is going through the same things and has the obligations as well.. As long as you make it up to her, and she knows that you really care and are upset you are missing it..
My MOH missed my first bridesmaids evebnt due to a work trip- it was no big.

I would go to FIL's party. If one of my BM's had something like that I would totally understand. Family is family. You will be at the shower, and can do something for her another time.

Re: Dilemma
I am gonna be honest and I would honestly be a little upset but not major. I say head to the family reunion. Talk to the Bride ASAP about it. Good Luck!

If I were in your shoes, I would sit down & talk to your friend about it....If you are good friends, she will understand...Family is a priority...There is no way to go to both...Why not suggest to your friend that you will do a spa day or something to make up for not being at the bachelorette party. If that is not your thing, something that both of you enjoy & can do together. JMO

Re: Dilemma
I would have to say that family comes first...especially since you are marrying into this family. BUT , why don't you discuss it with your FMIL...do you talk a lot? Because she might not mind if your not there...but if you know for a fact taht you are expected to be there...then it would be bad manners to not attend the family even when they are attending your wedding.
