Vasoline? Neosporin? Bacitracin?

Bacitracin?

You can also try hyaluronic acid for moisturization AND healing. It is from the aloe vera plant.

Vaseline can be used to moisturize. I use that on my lips at night because they are so dry.

Alcohol and peroxide are irritating. Those are different.

You know, I have had the same belly button ring in for around 3 years now, and I haven't taken it out once. Is that bad?

I wouldn't use anything, let it finish healing the dryness will go away soon.

violet- I have had my belly button pierced for 8 years now. I have had the same earring in for about 3 years, I take mine out every 4-3 months and clean it with alcohol.

are those ok to use?

All I keep hearing is it's a piercing, not a cut, no alcohol, peroxide, etc.

do not use any gooey ointments, it will only make it worse....it is normal to have some dryness....IF I remember correctly, I used to just bring the betadine with me.....

I used a tiny bit of bacitracin, it's ok to use. Just don't use a lot!

ok, so dryness is normal...Would you know if it's infected??? So far it's been good!!!!

You would definately know if it was infected...it woudl be very red & tender to the touch & (sorry, prepare for a little grossness...) it would ooze a creamy substance.

I just talked to my piercer ( I am still friends with her) & she said that ointments prevent the piercing from breakthing & can lead to an infection, and is totally counter-productive. The betadine should do OK, and if the crusting gets a bit too much, then make sure you lather it with antibacterial liquid soap properly to try & remove some of it when you clean it.
