Thank God my future MIL doesn't do this. It would drive me completely nutz!

Re: MIL Comparing Wedding to her Daughters?

OMG!!!!!! Yes!! ME!!!!! My FMIL compared her only daughter's wedding (which was 4 yrs ago) to my FBIL's wedding which was in May (lots of storied on that one). And I KNOW she is going to do the same to me...wait....she already has. She wants us to have a Sat night wedding (like her daughter) b/c SHE has to work on Saturdays, (our wedding will be on a Fri). Oh boy, she's just getting started!!! UGH!! P.S. she was not for her daughter getting married. FH's sister was only 21 when she was married. FH's brother was 22 and FH will be 27 going on 28 when we get married. She should have NOTHING to say, but she does.

My FSIL eloped. No comparison. But it just makes FMIL more obsessive about this wedding b/c she didn't get to do all of these things w/ her own daughter.

Re: MIL Comparing Wedding to her Daughters?

My husband is an only child.

BUT, throughout our entire 2 year planning process, she kept referring back to DH's cousin's wedding. She would say, 'Oh, Jim had a band, so you also have to have a band.'

Jim had the Vienesse hour, so you need to have the Vienesse hour.

So, one day, I couldn't take it and said, 'Hey, wasn't Jim's bride 6 months prego at the wedding? You want our wedding to be A LITTLE different, don't you?'

She NEVER did it again!

Re: MIL Comparing Wedding to her Daughters?

I have to say my own mom is a little guilty of this. Everything she went to with me, the hall, photographers, DJs, she compared to my sisters wedding. Mostly she just wound up telling the vendor exactly what went wrong at my sisters wedding and asking them if they do the same thing or how they would have handled the situation. Some times I want to say mom they dont care about all of her wedding horror stories this is about my day! Plus the fact that I was MOH at her wedding and I was there so I dont need to relive her day over and over and over again. It was 3 years ago!

I did everything by myself including getting my dress. My mom didnt want anything ot do with it. But when the time came to share infor with his family they started comparing because BIL got married 8 months earlier. Then MIL wanted me to wear her dress. It had a hoop skirt. I always liked her dress in pictures and she knew it but wanted me to wear the dress. Then MY sister had to compare what she had at hers which was 9 years prioir. Dancers entertainers of sorts adn everything. She has a lot of money to

EVERYONE compares ! My Aunts, my MIL, my friends. - I just say 'oh you guys know me, I have to little miss independent and do everything MY own way !!' - it usually shuts them up . - It's a way to remind them that ultimately the decisions is YOURS and you don't really CARE how so and so did her wedding, if you were interested in so and so's florist, band, dress etc. YOU'D ASK !!

Try not to let her get to you - B/c she's not going to stop !!

I just feel like I don't even want them around. I'm kind of glad she wants nothing to do with it, because when it comes down to it I have my own mother and sister and SIL (brothers wife) and friends that are more than willing to help me, and they have the same taste as I do

Can't wait until we go looking for BM dresses, his 2 sisters like to have there boobs out for all to see, I am nothing like that, not prude but not hanging out. I know now that whatever I pick will not be good enough for them, and I mean for anything I pick out.

Boy I can't wait to get married. I will have FH away from those nuts

hahaha- this is my life. As for the BM dresses, I took MY sister, the MOH, picked out a dress, and that was it
But I know what you mean about the total lack of enthusiasm. - I try SO hard to include my FMIL and FSIL - they could care less......And i'm jsut trying to be nice. - Like you said, I have my own mom and sister and friends/family who are all more than excited and have the same taste (as in CLASSY ) hehehe

Re: MIL Comparing Wedding to her Daughters?

I have gone through this in the months after our wedding. We did almost everything our selves and had 3 weddings after ours where people were constantly comparing. One felt hers was better because they spent 140 + PP and all she could harp on was my DJ being late because based on my guests feedback..thats the only hiccup in our day..HA..she hated that especailly when people say they hardly noticed cause they were eating. Then it was my dress..she said she was glad she did a french bustle cause the regular bustles make your butt look big..I said yeah, when you are a larger lady you have to think about stuff like that. (nothing against plus sized but she asked for that one.
Then it was photos..they talked about the scenery and how they were glad they didnt do a traditional church and hall..so I said 'well, we couldnt because our parents felt a church weddiing was less religious and we had variety, church, lake and hall.

I could go on and on, I am sorry, . DOnt let anyone walk over you cause it is you who will keep it in and get even more upset.
