Re: Condo/Co-op rates, taxes etc.

Most Co-ops and condos have different rates...

My parents used to own a place and they had a maintenence fee of $622 and that included taxes water and heat... but they still had to pay electric, which MOVES the fan for heat... (and a/c)

Just make sure if you are looking at ones that the homeowners are living there, ask them for a breakdown of their bills... or a roundabout... Most will help you out and disclose any helpful advice! Good Luck

I don't know if anyone feels comfortable telling me this, but besides the monthly payment, what other payments are involved in a condo, and about how much? i.e. maintenance, utilities, taxes, homeowners insurance?

can I expect to pay about $1000 a month with everything, or waaaaaaaay more?

Thank you ladies

Waaayyyyyy more. Let me tell you it SUCKS! First off, there is the mortgage. The common charges for us are $300 a month for a one bedroom, one bath in a nice complex. Then there is insurance--about $100 a month to also cover replacement value of everything in the condo. Then there is electric--about $50 a month. Then there are SEWER charges!!!!! I never knew about that--$35 a month. Taxes $250 a month with STAR. Cable is $60 a month, internet $50 a month, phone service $40 a month for basic....Need I go on? And we closed about a month ago and already poured over $1000 into it to buy paint to repaint and $500 for new carpet for the bedroom.

ETA: I think co-ops end up coming in cheaper since many charges are included in their higher monthly fees...

Re: Condo/Co-op rates, taxes etc.

I have a 1 bed co-op which I refinanced a couple of months ago at 4.5%. My maintenance is $600 a month, which covers taxes, maintenance to anything outside of my 4 walls, gas, water and oil heat. I pay extra for the use of the pool, if I want it, telephone, cable and electric. Hope this helps.

P.S. It's a beautiful place and I'll be selling it in a year or so!
