Yikes! What was he asking you not to be pissed about? How about an email that says while you enjoy your talks, you need to focus more on your work? Or that you are just plain not interested in an outside work friendship? Blunt but effective.

WOW he sounds like a true Wierdo. Can you get your desk moved to somewhere that is far away from where he sits now? I would of told him to leave me alone a while ago. I couldnt take all of that useless conversation from someone I couldnt stand at all

but I feel like maybe I'm over-reacting! Like I'm being hypersensitive and really quick-tempered.

Tell him the same thing you told us about the email ... it was inappropriate and you are not 'pissed' but now uncomfortable and getting in the way of you doing your job properly (make him feel bad!!).
