Re: New Car: Is purchasing an extended warranty worth it?

YES YES YES ....

I bought a certified pre-owned Jeep Cherokee ... and I bought the extended warranty for it.

So far, they warranty has covered things including, but definitely not limited to -
1. Car window regulator replacement
2. Water pump
3. 4-wheel drive shifter
4. loose nut on belts
5. air conditioning compressor

There is more, cannot rememebr now ... but the air conditioning compressor & the water pump alone was more than my warrenty cost me! It's well worth it!

I agree. It is so worth it. I bought the extended waranty for my car and it has come in so handy. I would do it again in a second.

My car is a 1999. So the car is only 5 years old. In addition, the car has only 31,000 miles on it ...

So it's not like it's a used and abused car at all. Stuff just happens and I'd rather pay the $2,000 and be covered then have to shell out $3,000, $4,000, $5,000 or trash a car b/c it's too expensive to fix.

Sorry, I know you'd rather not have to spend the money - I felt the same way - but after all the times I brought it in, I'm very happy I got it.

Well mine defintiely came in handy - and I didn't think it would ... but that's my own experience. Think about it and decide what's best for you.

Jenny are you planning to keep the car for another 2 years at least? IF so i would purchase the plan. If not then I would just keep maintaining the truck..>Change the oil etc.....You should be alright. With American Cars and trucks, Problems usually start after 50k miles.

I bought my prizm used with 18k miles, but I planned to keep it for a while, so I paid an extra $1200 for the extended warranty, which I am actually using right now.

Jenny:

If you are buying a DaimlerChrysler vechicle (Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler)... and if they are selling you a genuine Chrysler Service Contract (not a 3rd party warranty).. Go to this website and have them quote you a warranty.

http://www.chryslerwarranty.com

They are a Chrysler dealer in Iowa I believe. They will give you a HUGE discount over what you will pay at your dealer here in NY. You just give them the VIN... pay by CC over the phone... they will mail out your warranty card and you can have your car serviced at ANY Chrysler or Dodge dealer in the entire country. It doesn't matter where you bought the warranty from.

$2000 for the warranty sounds INSANE. Dealers WILL rip you off with this since this is their highest markup item to sell.

Get the quote from Chrysler Warranty. Then bring that quote to your local dealer. Tell them either beat the price or you will buy it elsewhere. Don't let them feed you a line of BS that you HAVE to buy the warranty from them. Thats not true.

FM me if you need more help.

Re: New Car: Is purchasing an extended warranty worth it?

Hmmmmm.... I just checked and it seems like the prices on the Chrysler warranties went up since I bought my car a few years ago.

Maximum Care (covers just about everything - except for maintenance items)... $100 deductable.. for 84 months and 100k miles will run you about $1905 + $100 for AWD + $200 for your current mileage. $2205 total.

Thats about the price you were quoted for... but I am curious what warranty they quoted you at for $2000. Was it a Chrysler warranty? How long? How many miles? Is it MAXIMUM care or only Added care (doesn't cover everything).

Let me know. I am quite the expert on Chrysler warranties (I have one myself).

I may also be able to refer you to somebody else that can sell you the warranty besides that website.
