Medically, I don't think there is a number. I was on it for 9 years...I have friends who were on it for 15+ years.

I think once you start with migraines/headaches or other issues - it's time to get off.

Once you stop feeling like yourself...

I got nervous about that so I went off it..I was on it for about 6 years..

i always thought that it was 5 years, but i've been on it for 10years.. i'm just getting off it now just to give my body a break!

I dont think there is any set time period.

My doctor sad that you can be on it forever and it would be ok.

There's not really a magic number (as far as I know) but there is a greater risk of side effects and complications as you get closer to or above 35.

ETS: That's 35 years old, not 35 years of being on the pill...
