Re: Is this normal? MIL related...

she seems almost on the verge of a breakdown....i dont know much about psychiatry but for her to call other people her sons name is very weird. How old is she? Is it senility??? do you communicate with her well that you can sit down and talk to her when she feels lonely? Maybe if you can make her feel like she has a daughter now too she wont be so obsessed with her son

good luck with this

Re: Is this normal? MIL related...

I'll be honest with you. For many months I thought that perhaps my FMIL did not like me. About 2 weeks ago, she was vocal about welcomingme to the family. It was then I had this great epiphany. It wasn't that she didnt like ME per se, but she didn't like the idea of SHARING him!

FH is the oldest child and only son of three children. He contributes a lot of time to his family and their home. I told him months before we even talked about marriage that his parents were going to have to understand that once he gets married, his primary obligation will be to his wife and children. A lot of 'old school' parents, from traditional backgrounds, have a hard time with this concept. This doesnt mean you leave your parents behind when you get married, its just that they aren't first anymore.

Re: Is this normal? MIL related...

Since we have been engaged, my FMIL has been crazy. I really thought I was hallucinating and over-analyzing...but recently she says, 'I don't think about you....and my son isn't happy.' She has clearly overstepped her bounds and can't deal with the changes. Unfortunately, I have learned, that she's the one with the problem...and can't admit that we're not happy when around her. So, in my brief 7 months of craziness with her....I have decided to ignore her and go about my business. Also, I try to go over there in big groups. It's really sad cause in the long-run she's missing out. But I've decided to always include her...and put up with her. If you keep trying, you'll be more of a lady than she'll ever be. give her courtesy and respect, cause in the end your husband will see her as the problem...and then maybe she'll change. I'm sure she'll do something else when she comes to my home this weekend...I'll keep you updated! (Keep your cool)
