I lucked out with my dress...When I tried it on, my Mom and I both fell in love with it instantly!!!!

Re: Has anyone settled on their dress
I didn't and I strongly urge you not to either. That is one thing, probably the biggest thing, that you don't want to have regrets about. There are plenty of brides that have had to buy a second gown because they didn't love the first one. You don't want to be doing that a month before your wedding. I think you need to explain to your mom that you thin the dress she likes is beautiful (it doesn't matter if you really think so) but it's just not the dress for you. Tell her you appreciate that she's going to be paying for the dress, but you just don't love the one she wants.

Re: Has anyone settled on their dress
And yet here's the flip side....MOH and I went dress shopping first...I found four dresses I liked and brought mom back for the final decision. She hated ALL of them!!!! Needless to say I was quite upset and cryed a little bit and silently thought that I was never going to find a dress that both her AND I loved. The next weekend I went to another store and we found THE one...and when we did, we BOTH knew it.
I would keep shopping around...unless of course mom is SOOOOO far off base of what you really want, THEN I'd put my foot down and let her know that while you do appreciate her paying for the dress, that perhaps you will have to to get what you really want. I wouldn't settle in other words.

Re: Has anyone settled on their dress
When i was shopping in adriennes there was a bride who was getting married in two weeks and was either having her final fitting or picking up her dress. she hated her dress!! She started trying on a million other dresses and told me that i should get what i am happy with because her dress was her mother's choice and now she was going to buy another one that she liked! Very stressful thing to do two weeks before getting married.

I guess I got lucky my mom and I both grabbed a bunch of dresses and it turned out the one I loved my mother had picked out (she swears I haven't liked anything she's picked out since I was 6)
My suggestion to you though would be to go with a dress YOU love no matter who is paying for it-ultimately you are the one who has to feel good (and if you feel good you look good) in the dress-if your mom is trying to pressure you into one-see if there isn't another choice you love and she can agree on.
Best of Luck!!

Re: Has anyone settled on their dress
I actually went dress shopping without my mom. I live in Maryland and she lives in New York. I went with my cousin and close friend. I tried on the dress and fell in love. I showed my mom a picture of the dress and she was very happy.
I say get the dress that makes you feel the most...your mom will love it too.

Re: Has anyone settled on their dress
My mom and I don't get along completely. Her and I have totally different styles...I'm more laid back and she's 'out there'. She is reliving her youth!!!
Anyway, she saw a pic of the dress I wanted (and that I ordered) and she said it wasn't me and didn't like anything about it.
She's supposively paying for it anyway, but it really hurt that she put down my dress. Hopefully when she sees it on, she will think differently.

Uh Oh Sounds like someone is having second thoughts. Do something quick and get the dress you want before it's too late and you go through your wedding reception thinking would the one I want look better or looking at your photo album and think I wonder what I would've looked like in the other one!! I know you said your mom cried when she saw you in it but I think in order to put the deposit down you both should've been teary eyed.

I love the dress but its beautiful and pincessy - i guess I wanted something a litttle more sleek.
I feel better though- I spoke to my photograpgher last night. She said - you go out to dinner and you go to other peoples weddings in a sexy dress. now tell me when you are going to wear a princess dress like that?
