Re: Meeting with boss this afternoon - need advice!!

I would just repeat this sentence that you wrote.

'Basically, the problem is that I'm not being included no information that I need to know about in order to do my job - and it's affecting my work.'

You can mention that you're not being included in e-mails without pointing fingers, I'm sure there isn't ONE person that isn't including you in the e-mails so they can't really point fingers.

Good Luck !!! Keep us informed

thanks!
I prob will just say that then give a few examples of what's happened in the last two weeks - no finger pointing, just to further illustrate my point.

I still don't know what TIME this afternoon we're having this meeting - so I'll keep ya posted!

Ok

Do you think your boss has a clue that you are unhappy? She may already know. She may be oblivious part of the time, but she can't be THAT blind.

As to what to say.

Let her know you want to be the best Asst. Managing Editor. But in order to effectively assist her in running the imprint , you need more information. Without keeping you abreast of the goings-on in your dept., her going away on vacation or being sick could ruin the tight schedules on which the whole publishing industries runs. You are a team player and the oversights that are brushed off as nothing major could cause changes to release dates, which costs dollars for the company.

Good luck!

thanks Juliet!
I don't know if my boss really notices how unhappy I am - she is really busy since she also manages three other sections of our department - so I wouldn't be surprized if she didn't know.

You're in my same exact profession, so you know how vital information is in our position. It's already happened where dates/drop in titles have not come to my attention and we've recently run into some problems with the Production dept. as a result... Not fun!

Well, hopefully this meeting can bring some kind of resolution to this! Update to come at 3:30!!

Yikes! We have had a few incidents like that recently, but in the opposite manner. We had four titles drop off our FA05 list after we launched them, but the publisher never told my boss (who was just promoted to executive managing editor). The copy chief heard it from one of the editors whose book was cut, she confronted my boss and he didn't know it had happened. One of the books was in production already and it got cut rather upbruptly.

Don't be surprised if your boss DOES know. She may be busy, but that could be why she doesn't say anything. She needs you there, so she never confronts you so you never leave and all is well....NOT!!

Let us know what happens!

She postponed until today? Sorry Helena!!

Good luck. Maybe she will be in a good mood because it is Friday.

I hope so - I'm certainly in a very good mood today, so that helps at least! Thanks!
