I think that traditionally the wedding is held where the bride is from... Do you live together or still with parents? That could make a difference b/c you could have it where you both live. Also some places in NJ aren't too far from queens, maybe 45-60 min.

Re: Wedding near his hometown or mine?
I would agree - typically closer to where the bride lives (or at least her family). Unless of course the majority of your guests are closer to where your FH is from - you may wish to make it easier for them.
There are lots of hotels and nice places right over the GWB and it is less than an hour from Queens. I live on the Queens/Nassau Border and it takes me less than an hour to get to the Fairlawn area if that is any indication of distance for you. Hope it helps.

traditionally it is wherever the bride lives. if I was in the same situation, i would probably look in both places (since they aren't horribly far) and see where i could find the nicest place for the best price !

We live about an hour apart, I'm just nervous that one side will not be as willing to go which ever place we decide since you need to cross two bridges to get there!

Yes it usually is near where the bride lives. Look at places that are in the middle for both of you. That's where I would start.

I think you should have it near your home...NJ.

Re: Wedding near his hometown or mine?
Hi. Definitely FM me as I have a lot to say on this topic. FH and I are reversed. He is from Jersey and I am from LI. We looked in both locations and actually found a better deal on LI. We chose a place that was close to the Cross Island Parkway and that would be only an hour (or less at midnight) car ride for those going back to Jersey. Plus we are having hotel rooms and a shuttle for those who stay.
I am not really one that says 'it has to be by the bride's house.' For me, it was that we will be living in Jersey and I am leaving my home for him. I thought it was only fair. For me, every other life event (communions, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) will be in Jersey. This is my last chance on LI. Sappy, I know, but this meant a lot to me. When the costs started falling in my favor and FH's mom said we should do it in NY and FH fell in love with my venue -- the deal was sealed.
It's up to the two of you. I have heartache over people spending so much to stay over the night for my wedding..that is why i fought for a good rate (tho, compared to jersey, it's double the price!) and i am going to pay for the tax and do great guest welcome bags. It's not your fault that you live an hour apart and that's why you have to choose what is right for you. Those who want to will B there

sorry to be chatty cathy but seriously...this is the same thing I said!!!!!
We have commuted 52 miles to see eachother, 2 bridges and countless hours. We had our eng. party in jersey and i was so nervous my fam wouldn't come because it was two bridges. these are people who don't leave the island EVER. and guess what, THEY ALL CAME. not one said no.
Family and Friends love you. Do it where your heart tells you to do it.

Thanks Leese.. wow so you guys do the same thing we do, the back and forth commute. Its really awful, not to mention I heard tolls are going up. I recently moved back home to my parents so now our commute is even longer. I used to live in Bergen County now I'm in Passaic. Where are you and your FH going to live after the wedding?

we need to be best friends...i'll be living in passaic county too.
yes, we do the same thing - for three whole years..what about you? it does stink and it makes the whole wedding process even harder. vendors don't seem to understand that i can't just 'pop' on down with my fiance.
but the light is at the end of the tunnel and it will be all good someday. i always say...in three years from now, when i am tired of looking at your face, remind me of the years we dated, the tears i cried from having to leave you, the hours in the car, the tolls on the bridge, the miles passing - just to see that face for a few short hours.
as his grandma used to say 'if it's love, it's worth it' (i miss her!)
