Well DH mother chipped in but father didn't and both my parents did. DH and I paid for a little more than half of the total cost of the wedding.
Needless to say we were broke, anyway, not your question, we wanted to get everyone a little something, but not favor anyone, so everyone got a picture frame, different ones, according to their houses.

Well would you FH want to get like a hotel voucher? How much did you want to spend?

Re: Gift for FILs
We got our parents each a frame (my parents are divorced), and the moms got a handerchief along with a photo album. My dad paid for 2/3 of the wedding and FIL's are giving us about half the balance. My mom can't give anything at this time.
If you have it to spend, how about a nice gift basket with wine or maybe breakfast goods. There are a few websites and local places that make really nice ones.

Re: Gift for FILs
YEah I am gonna have this problem as well cuz my parents are gona help out and so is FH mother and step father but we doubt his father and stepmother are going to help out at all. We are basically paying gor everything ourselves. I am sure the parents are going to chip in for the vendors.
For your FIL what about a nite at a decent hotel or what about a massage at Nordstroms or something along those lines. What about a nite at Atlantic city just pay for the hotel. Just some ideas hope they trigger something

Re: Gift for FILs
Are you giving them an album with your wedding photos? I think thats a very generous gift considering how much it costs to have one of those made. Thats our thank you gift b.c a year after the wedding I'm still paying off the last 500 bucks!

Re: Gift for FILs
We are not giving FH's parents anything. Honestly, you have nothing to thank them for if they did not contribute. Obviously if they are not able to contribute due to financial reasons that is a different story. My FIL's are more then able to pay for anything and are not even contributing one penny even after demading to be on the invitation. Well they have contributed many headaches! Needless to say their name will be on the invitation but they will not receive a gift nor will the be announced at our reception with the bridal party and my parents.
Ask your FH what you are getting them a thank you gift for--if they have not done anything that you would need to thank them for then why would you get them a gift...just because they are his parents?

I am in a very similar situation- we ended up going with frames also.

Re: Gift for FILs
What about having one of their family's formal pictures blown up and framed for them? That is a nice thank you.
