depends on how and why the comment was made.

I think i can take things personally, especially if i think the person is just saying it to be RUDE.

Whew is this the 13-year old SIL? What a strumpet! Seriously, no need to direct polls at ME today. I feel bad enough already with the typhoid fever.

I take things personally when someone I know well says them. DH, even joking around, can hurt my feelings. People I don't know well I just write off as being idiots.

i usually only take it personally when it's FH. For almost everyone else, I couldn't care less and I enforce my 'this is me - take it or leave it' attitude.

Ditto. DH said something to me yesterday that I took totally personal where if it had come from someone else, I'd have been like 'bite me.'

I only take it personally when it is someone who is saying something general & doesn't really know me at all.

Or if it is my MIL.

Certain people I am overly sensitive with and take everything they say personally - specifically FH's parents and brother (he is the type that says something, then says he was kidding, but I always get a feeling that deep down he wasn't kidding at all! )

I am definitely a sensitive person - so I tend to dwell and overanalyze everything.

Because my main concern in life is how other people see me

Seriously though, I take things personally sometimes....but it's so rare that someone says something bad about me that I dont' really have to worry about it

I'm very sensitive and often take things personally, especially when it comes from my family and close friends. Sometimes I know intellectually, that things aren't intended to hurt me, yet emotionally, I sitll feel lousy.

i try not to - spme people don't know how to keep their mouths shut and just dig and dig and dig at you until you cave. and some peoples comments are just not worth the energy

Some people who are insecure will try to push my buttons, but I'm old and hardened now..it used to bother me, now not so much.

I think I take things more personally if I have been offended by that person in the past...I guess it's like holding a grudge, I don't get over things too easily.

Oh, yeah and I'm a superpicky pain in the neck too, so I guess that doesn't help much either!!!!

I think for the most part I do take things to heart, especially when they come from my biatch of a SIL. It's not so much that I care what she thinks, because I don't, it's more because she ALWAYS has something negative to say. ARGHHHH!!!!!!!!!

i am the same way!!! i am a pleaser, so if someone directly or indirectly says something that goes against me, i take it personally. i have to get tougher!
