Re: REPOST:NWR (somewhat): Do you feel like you keep changing careers?
You never finished law school, right? Do you feel like there are other options of jobs in which you can use your law degree, but help others? My brother worked for the Civilian Review Board, representing citizens who make allegations of police brutality...You can really be helping others, and not doing corporate law...That said, all the options you mentioned, while nice, require a great deal more schooling and money. I would figure out what you want, and be at least started on the schooling part before getting married. I am now working on my doctorate but did not get married until I finished my masters. I have several friends in MSW programs now, and all want to work in schools. Those jobs are very difficult to find on LI. Maybe I am too much of a realist, but I also looked into what fields had jobs available. And a PhD dissertation is much different than an undergrad paper. Write 300 pages of original research and get back to me. It may have been to that level, but the intensity (and sheer volume) is what makes only 15% finish their dissertations in most programs.
Also, I reread your previous posts and it sounds like you only spent one semester in law school...I know my brother hated it the entire first year, but really did start to like it by the end, and now really enjoys what he does. I know I didn't like college the first semester, so maybe if you gave it another chance you would get to enjoy it...The first semester of my grad school was pretty boring--lots of memorization--but by the end I did like it, and now really like what I am doing for my doctoral original research. So, I think everything takes some time...
