Well a tip is optional, but its to let them know they did do a good job. You don't have to tip, expecialy if they did not do a great job.

there was a article from The Knot that said if a vendor is the owner of a business you dont have to tip them since like you said they pocket all the $. We didnt tip our photographer or videographer since they were the owners.

Only tip if you feel they deserve it.

Tipping the MaitreD $7/person is way too high IMO. I thought the average was $3-4.

I won't tip them since they are the owner.
But I will definelty feed them .
for maitre D, the average is between 3-5/ person. That's what I know.

My photographer is the owner also. I'm not going to tip him, but I will feed him. A cranky photographer is not what you need that day.

My video and photo and DJ all owned their companies. I tipped them all. They deserved it. They provided exceptional service and I fel a tip was more than appropriate. I really don't understand this 'rule' that says that vendors who own their places shouldn't be tipped...I mean, they are working, right? But maybe I am in the minority since my mom owns her own business and I know how hard it is...so I totally support small business owners.

I did not tip business owners. I did feed all vendors and gave them favors...as well as their own 'vendor table' to sit and relax at during break times
