I booked my location rather quickly after we got engaged for a good reason. My father had been ill at the time and in Judaism, you are not supposed to choose a wedding date and plan a wedding when a parent has passed. If the date is already set, and you have completed your period of mourning (Reform and SOME Conservative Jews- 30 days, Orthodox Jews- one year) then the wedding can go on as planned. Some people will not have music out of respect when the wedding falls within a year of the parent's passing. My father passed away shortly after our engagement, but his spirit will be in every note the band plays and every dance step we take. He loved to dance and he loved music so we will have it.

Also, at my age, there was no reason to have a marathon engagement of over a year. We knew we wanted a winter wedding and were not going to wait until 2007. We want to start a family soon after the wedding and my age is a factor in regard to my fertility and having children with disabilities.

I booked in Jan 05 for my June 06 wedding. Getting married in June/summer was important to us, so we wanted to book early. A friend of mine just got engaged and she is trying to plan an 06 wedding, and there are still summer dates at the places she has seen. I will say most of the 06 summer dates left seem to be August though. Good Luck!

I booked in October 2004 and the wedding is October 2006. They said that people already had some of the days in our month

I booked October 04 for our May 05 wedding. We were fine and 'short' bookings are great because you can get some real deals...we took someone's cancelled date at a big discount.

You have PLENTY of time.
