I feel the same way. I think tips is a way of saying thanks. I don't feel they are required. You must earn them. Other people think differently though, especially those who have worked for tips before.

I agree!

Personally...I'm not tipping my DOC.
Her fee is a lot, but we chose her because we all 'clicked'. We don't feel that we've used her as much as other brides she works with. Even she said 'you haven't used me for less than a 1/4 of what you should be using me for.'
So even she admits it.

I truly believe the tipping gets out of hand.

Re: Tips are for extraordinary service, right?

We had our tip envelopes set up prior to the wedding. We didnt seal them shut though. At the end of the night we decided to stiff the bongo player because he did not do his job. We took his $50 and put it in the DOC's envelope because we felt she deserved it.

We also wish we took out some $ from the Matri'd (sp?) envelope. What he did we have no idea since the DOC was the one running around doing EVERYTHING. He certainly didnt deserve what he got.

So my advice is to set up envelopes with predetermained amounts, BUT dont seal them and make sure they are not $50s and $100s so you can change some things around at the end of the night.

eta- I tipped my DOC because I 'won' her services for free at the WOTY last year.

I am only tipping for over and above service. the prices of everything are so jacked up to begin with and all my vendors (except for limo) own their own business.

We tipped everyone. We had our tip envelopes prepared fpr the day of but not sealed. Just in case either someone didn't meet our expectations, or if someone really went above and beyond. We wound up adding to only one envelope and that was for the videographer. At some points he was even better than our matre'd!

bumping... for more opinions....

want to know if people tip because it is expected of them or because they actually think the service they received was exemplary....

I am so happy, I thought I was the only one that felt this way! I already have some strong opinions as to those who will be starting out the day with no tips due to the aggrevation they have caused me thus far. If they truly impress me the day of our wedding I will be mroe than willing to give them a tip. If not...I really think that it is thier own fault.
