They were involved, but not involved if that makes any sense.

They never gave their opinions what THEY wanted, and wouldn't really ask how things were going, mainly because they didn't want to feel overwhlemed and feel like they were butting in, but they would listen when I offered up information and show genuine excitement.

They choose what they want to be involved in. Although I try to involve them, like taking them to the place - and then they proceed to tell us negative things about it and how they don't like it. I was very upset at first. So...yes and no - it can go either way. If you're upset about them not being involved have you thought of some areas thye might like to know about, etc. that you can ask them about? Sometimes I think they don't want to step on your toes too.

Same here, plus they are planning the RD. Plus my FMIL was with me when I found my dress, and had come with me anytime I have asked but not been pushy about anything.

Mine tried to be invovled to the point that she'd make ridiculous suggestions - she tried to run with whatever I tried to include her on. It wasn't worth having her involved so I was happy when she just backed off.

My FMIL is very involved but not in an annoying way.

Same for me. It's a happy medium.
