First you shouldn't adopt/buy a puppy that is less than 8 weeks old. That is how long they should stay with their mom and their litter mates. Otherwise they won't be properly dog socialized and may have health issues.
Please make sure you have the time and energy for an 8 week old puppy. They need to be let out every 2 hours, and Labs go through several phases of chewing and teething.
If you called reputable breeders (not puppy mills or pet stores) then any available puppies are likely already promised to other owners.
Please please do not buy a puppy from a pet store. Do some research on puppy-mills and you'll see why. Realize the only 'real' registration papers are AKC papers. Any other acronym is not a truely reputable or valued breed registry.
Places you should look are: -Petfinder.com -NSAL -Little Shelter -Lab rescue organizations
Good luck finding the right dog for you!

Re: Where can I find a chocolate lab puppy??
I agree...... Please understand what a puppymill is all about, if you buy from a pet store. People do not realize the how horrible they are. Don't let pet stores fool you - no reputable breeder would sell there puppies to a pet store. Look up info at http://prisonersofgreed.org for info on puppymills and petstores . 10,000,000 dogs and PUPPIES are killed in shelters each year - try to rescue one. I would suggest all the same shelters - NSALA and Petfinders.com are great!! Good Luck!!!! Just a suggestion, I adopted an older dog and he was the best dog I ever had!!!!!!

Re: Where can I find a chocolate lab puppy??
I have to agree, most reputable breeders won't release a puppy before its 8 weeks old. We got our chocolate lab from a very reputable bredder who warned us up front that she decides based on how the puppies are maturing whether to let them go at 8,9, or 10 weeks and sure enough we picked our little guy up at 10 weeks.
If you're set on a purebred chocolate lab I can recomend some breeders but they are going to be 1.Picky about the home they are going into (people availavle to stay w/pup, yard/park nearby, guarantee to neuter/spay etc.), 2. Pricey (our pup was $1200), and 3. Keep in mind is it's early June so most litters coming from a reputable breeder will already be reserved and might have a waiting list sooo you may have to wait until their next litter which could be a few months or more away or see if someone changes their minds.
Best of Luck!!
Here's our not so little guy all grown up!

Re: Where can I find a chocolate lab puppy??
Haven't been on this forum in such a long time. Was just browsing, and noticed your interest in a lab puppy---I have a one year old Golden Retriever, Dakota. He comes from a breeder in Pennsylvania--Candyheart Retrievers. This breeder breeds Goldens and Labs. I picked Dakota up last July when he was just 8 weeks old. He is beautiful, smart, easy going and loving. My breeder has a web site, candyheartretrievers.com and I believe she may have chocolate labs available. She is in Greentown, PA which is about 3 hours from Bellmore(where I live). Check out her website and see if you would be interested!!!!!

Re: Where can I find a chocolate lab puppy??
no puppy should be taken away form its mother before 8 weeks.
also, buying a lab puppy imo is like an eskimo buying snow.....
let me explain, whenever i have walked into a shelter (especially nsal for that matter) it has alwys been 80% labs and lab puppys and lab mixes. they are the most popular breed you'll find in a shelter.
me and dh went to one once looking for a small breed and EVERY dog we saw was a lab. dh said 'wow, people would be stupid to buy a lab, look how many there are here!' and i couldnt agree more. not saying youre stupid for wanting tobuy one, just saying maybe some ppl dont relaize how many labs are in shelters. (not to mention online rescues)
dont get me wrong, i have bought from breeders, but only because a)they are harder to get breeds and b)we bought from a breeder after checking out shelters.... none of which had what we were looking for.
my lab mix we got from NSAL at the age of 8 weeks.
please try looking at some shelters before resorting to a breeder. (hopefully you know never to buy from a pet shop)
